Advantages: Price, staff
Disadvantages: None apparent
We visited Marine Holiday Park (Rhyl) over the Halloween period 2009.
We arrived quite late and in the pouring rain, fortunately we were greeted by a friendly receptionist who was able to direct us to our caravan with ease.
We had chosen a mid range caravan. The cost was £149 for a three night weekend break. Myself, partner and son travelled, however, the caravan could sleep up to 8 people.
We were pleasantly surprised at the standard accommodation - having read a number of poor reviews prior to visiting.
The caravan was extremely clean, spacious and equipped with everything a family might need - microwave, fridge freezer, gas oven & hob, all plates, cutlery, & a vast array of pots & pans.
The caravan also had gas central heating throughout and a gas gire in the living room. Gas and electricity are included in the price - an added bonus in the Winter months!
The park has a heated indoor swimming pool - it was a bit cool but not unbearable, although the showers were cold (I chose to shower back at the caravan where the water was piping hot).
Adjacent to the pool are is a small cafe serving toasties, beans on toast etc, nothing to elaborate. The children's indoor play area can also be accessed from here. It's on the small side but the kids seemed to enjoy it and I was able to sit and drink my coffee and read a paper in peace!
With regard to entertainment, the site offers a sports bar where you can have a relatively quiet drink, there are children running in and out and playing on the small stage but then that is only to be expected in such an establishment.
A cabaret bar is situated next door. For those who like it (I am not one!) bingo is played nightly and taken quite seriously! There are also live bands and games for the children.
As stated earlier, we visited during Halloween. We had been told when booking that Halloween was a big thing at the park - and it was!! A Halloween party was held on the Friday and Saturday night. Every one dressed up, young and old. Staff gave out treats to the children and thoroughly kept them entertained.
A major plus point is the bar prices, very cheap!! They even do cheap doubles!
The Marine Park is not on the grand scale of such places as Haven but then I think that is the attraction. Many caravans are privately owned and this is reflected in the care taken with the external decor.
The staff are able to provide a more personal touch and there is altogether a more cosy atmosphere than that of a bigger park.
We would definitely visit again and would recommend for to anyone who wants a more homely touch - here everyone is made welcome!
Summary: Great Family Short Break
