Advantages: Kids' club, swimming pool, quiet location
Disadvantages: self-catering means not so much of a holiday for mum
This year we decided to hire a caravan and spend a week in Cornwall. After checking out several sites via post and Internet, we settled on Newquay Holiday Parks. They have 3 sites around Newquay. All three have onsite vans and/or bungalows for hire, as well as camping sites available.
They have a Big Top Club to keep the children entertained, very handy if the kids are up at the crack of dawn and you want a quiet morning. Two of the parks have swimming pools, despite being within a few minutes drive of the beach. The other park is literally a 2 minute walk across the road to the beach.
We stayed at Newquay Holiday Park (the other two are Crantock Beach and Holywell Bay Holiday parks). The caravan was in good condition and very clean. Some vans include bedding, ours didn't so we took sleeping bags. The was also a colour TV in the van at no extra cost.
There is an onsite shop, albeit rather expensive, an onsite takeaway which was actually pretty decent value for money. All the conveniences that you'd expect from a camp site (laundry, entertainment/tv rooms, night club etc) are handy in the middle of the site. This particular site was about 10-15 minutes from Newquay town centre, and was fairly isolated and quiet.
We plan on booking our next holiday or the one after that with the same company, perhaps at one of the other sites just for a change of scene. A 4 berth caravan in August this year cost us about £ 400. The cost of course varies depending on accomodation required and time of the year.
