Advantages: Good day out for all!

Disadvantages: Immature rudeboys, control freak Police officers

Yes folks, I got up Monday, had a wash & threw on my glad rags before hooking up with 5 of my home boys to take a trip down the Harrow Road into Notting Hill.

Now on a August Bank Holiday this ain't the type of place you'd expect to see Juia Roberts & Hugh grant having a snog on the street corner, or his sidekick opening the front door in his Y fronts, noooo, this is party time!

The music, not all desirable, is booming - admittedly some of those guys need to invest some cash into their sound systems, I've heard cars that sound better! - The streets are awash with colour, scantiliy clad females of every description dodge in & out of the paths of screw face youths who cause the crowd to surge with their immature rude boy antics, Police irritate the revellers who mean well by shunting them around like Northumerland Cattle & some guys getting the once over by 3 paramedics next to an outside mens loo that double up as a peep show for any unsuspecting passer by who glances at the 4 inch gaps on each corner of the corrogated construction, I just hope he hasn't been a victim of the pattie I'm about to eat & his failure to stay vertical is more to do with an over consumption of alcohol & the blazing Sun shining uninterrupted from the cloudless sky, I remember when I was a youth & I'd get 4 weeks of that weather out of my 6 weeks holiday!.

Carnival this year was refreshingly pleasent for the most part, I admit I didn't see it all, but a good time seemed to be had by most, no lives were lost & the authorities allowed things to go on that bit longer due to the good behaviour of the majority of people, maybe the rude boys of yester year have grown up or moved on? Whatever your background, perceptions or political convictions I would most definately recommend you shed any prejudices you may have for one day next year, or two if you're feeling adventurous, & take a trip to Europe's biggest celebration of Afro Carribean
Culture, let's hope it doesn't get watered down anymore by then as without the core elements it wouldn't be Nottinghill Carnival!.
