Advantages: My local, but perhaps the best too

Disadvantages: I really can't think of any

Last Thursday, 9th November, I cut my second knuckle on my left had whilst gardening. It was a small cu, but deep; not bleeding much, but you could see the bone. The chemist sent me to the surgery; the surgery to hospital. I arrived at A&E at about 10am and was booked in.
within 30 minutes, I was seen by an efficient, but comforting triage nurse, who suggested it was likely to be a plastic case as she could see that the tendon was likely to be severed. I sat in A&E for up to another hour before seeing a doctor (and the original triage nurse checking her fears) and a plastic surgeon was paged.

in the meantime, I was taken straight away to XRay and back to wait for the surgeon. I was losing track of time by now, but under two hours, I am sure.

The plastic surgeon was prompt and agreed to fit me in between patients as soon as he could. I was to be admitted, so sent to sit in a side area while a ward was found. (and so free up the A&E bed for the next unfortunate!) A bed was swiftly found and I was taken to wait for a free slot.

The ward was comfortable, with a great view of the Downs and I sat reading and waitiing. To cut a long story short, at about 4pm two theatre staff arrived in a rush. They had a slot, but we had to run. And we did, literally, along the corridors with a nurse closing my gown for modesty.

The operation was a complete success and after a night in I was discharged on Friday lunchtime. It will be a long recovery.

I cannot speak highly enough of the treatment I received. Yes, there were periods of waiting, but what a service. I worry that I might have delayed an elective patient by "muscling in", and hope I did not. Thank you Odstock.

Summary: Excellence in plastic surgery; excellence in patient care

We usually hear moans and groans about the NHS, great to hear a positive experience and praise for a job well done. Hope you are feeling better soon!
