Advantages: Good base to explore Northumberland
Disadvantages: Too many to mention
We've just returned from a week at Sandy Bay. I booked a Gold Caravan for £695 for the week. Nice caravan, obviously privately owned as fairly well maintained, though we did run out of gas and had to wait about 2 hrs before anyone came to change it. We also reported to reception that the freezer door on the fridge freezer wasn't shutting properly and water was dripping on the kitchen floor. Despite assurances that they would send someone that day, no-one ever turned upLot of money for the resort
Site also left a lot to be desired. Pleasant beach if you could get onto it - you either slivered down a grassy bank or stumbled over some rocks. OK if you're just a kid.
Chavvy people, dogs ++. Part of the site looked like the local travellers site with Tarmac and Roofing lorries parked outside the caravans.
Small pool, in fact we got turned away at 3.00pm as it was apparently full, still, it didn't look particularly clean. We were told to come back at 10.00am, but as we had something planned for the next day, that didn't help. Pool closed at 5.00pm which is ridiculous in August.
To get into the pool, restaurant etc, you had to go through an amusement arcade. Evening entertainment was ok, but area was more like a working mens club. After it closed the noise was awful. Girls screaming, men shouting. One evening we had people banging on the side of the caravan at about 1.00am. NICE!
When we told local people where we were staying everyone said 'Oh its rough there!' If only we'd known
Northumberland is fantastic, but we'd never do a Park Resort again. Next time we'll try Haven.
Summary: I'll try Haven next time
