      Excellent place to stay

Hello welcome to my review of Scotgate Holiday Park in Braithwaite, Cumbria. We recently visited here for a 5 day camping holiday to the lake district after our original choice of campsite was to waterlogged due to the rainfall the day before.

      Location:-

Scotgate is located less than 2 miles outside of Keswick in the small village of Braithwaite. It is very easily found from the A1 and M6 motorways and is signposted most of the way after leaving.
Braithwaite lays between Derwentwater and Bassenwhaite lakes and is between two sets of mountains. This means the campsite offers great views of the hills and a relatively short walk can be very rewarding with even better views of Derwentwater and the surrounding scenery.

Being close to Keswick also means that local attractions are close on hand. Lake Windermere is less than half hours drive away and offers a host of other attractions.

      Amneties:-

Scotgate Holiday Park offers excellent facilities for those who are camping with free showers and and toilets which are all kept very clean at literally all times. A pot wash station and Baby changing facilities and fresh water point are also supplied for free use. The laundry room you do have to pay for however. It costs £2 for either the dryer or the washing machine.

There is a shop supplying most things you need including milk and newspapers, and also hire out ice blocks for your cool-box. Next door to the shop is a cafe/restaurant although this seemed fairly overpriced for what you got. We chose to eat at the local pub being only a short stumble back to the tent and better value for money.

      Accommodation:-

As mentioned when we visted we camped and the site was very busy due to visiting in peak period. Each tent however still had ample space for seating outside and place to park a car.
The tariff we paid is set for 2 people and cost £16 including tent and car. In low season this would have cost us £13 per night. An extra person would have cost £5 per night low seaon and £6 high.
Dog are allowed on the campsite which is great and only costs an extra £1 each night.

Both motorhomes and caravans are allowed here and with parking and electric at all pitches. The cost is £18.50 per night in high season and £15.50 low season. The cost is again for 2 people with the costs for extra people being the same. Awnings and gazebos can also be pitced for a small extra fee.

Chalets are available to rent by the week here and prices range from around £380 - £600 per week and all of them are 6 Berth. The chalets include Colour Television, DVD Player, Fridge, Microwave, Toilet, Shower and fridge.
These chalets looked very spacious and comfortable in fact we are considering booking one up next time we visit.

Static caravans are on site and go from around £250 - £500 per week and go from 4 - 6 berth. Again these looked spacious but nowhere neer as big as the chalets.

      Booking:-

Unfortunately reservations for camping are not accepted however bookings are available online at scotgateholidaypark.co.uk or by phone on 01768 778343 for caravans and chalets.

      Overall:-

We had a brilliant stay here no groups are allowed (more than 2 families) and noise must be ceased by 10.30pm, this made for a quite stay as you expect from such a location.

This campsite made an excellent base for exploring the Lake District whether walking or in the car. With great walks just outside the gates of the campsite and most places you could want to visit here not being any more than 45min to reach.

We will definatly be coming back here either camping or maybe even in one ofthe chalets. Either way i'll be looking forwards to it.
