Owning a holiday lodge had always been a dream of ours, and we couldn't have bought one at a better park! Gatebeck is such a great, quiet and scenic park which is ideal for escaping from civilisation for a few days. We love the fact that the park is so close to the Lake District so if we fancy a day out while we're there we've not got far to go. When we were there last weekend we went through and had a great day out in Ambleside. The lodge itself is perfect for what we need it for. There is a lot of space, but is still cosy in winter, we have 2 bedrooms, so we can have guests to stay with us and most importantly, we're surrounded by the countryside. Because Gatebeck park is an owners park there is a real community spirit about the place and it's always nice to bump into neighbours if we happen to be there at the same time.
We bought a holiday lodge at Gatebeck a couple of years ago because it was surrounded by some of the most stunning scenery we had ever seen. It's such a peaceful park and is great whenever we need a relaxing weekend (or longer) away from work. Being so close to lovely towns like Kendal and Endmoor means that we can look round the sights and shops that we don't have at home. The staff are really friendly and helpful and the park has plenty of facilities to keep us happy. There is also a little fishing spot just down the road that keeps me happy. The lodge we bought is a two bedroom model which makes it perfect for having friends and family come on holiday with us to go for country walks or to visit the nearby towns and villages. It feels so much bigger than when we first looked around it, and because it was already kitted out with top of the range appliances and furniture, we could just turn up and start our holiday.
We have recently bought a holiday lodge at Gatebeck holiday park on the outskirts of Kendal. It is in the perfect location to appreciate all of the surrounding natural beauty, as well as being close to shopping centres and markets while still enjoying the peace and tranquillity of the countryside. After viewing the complex and lodges, we decided to buy a lodge at this complex, as it was such a lovely place with so much surrounding nature. Along with my partner's parents we bought a 2 bedroom lodge, which we just loved after viewing. There is plenty of natural light through out the lodge and it is much more spacious than we ever imagined. It is such a beautiful holiday home and I am so happy with our decision to buy one. The lounge has an extremely comfortable feel and the place has central heating, as well as double glazing, to keep the place nice and cosy. The luxurious kitchen has a fridge, freezer, gas cooker and grill, plus the laminate flooring makes the place feel light and airy with lots of space. There is an onsite laundrette and dog paddock, which my in-laws love. Plus there are a lot of country walks and fishing spots close by, as well as Leighton Moss (RSPB site). Their website is: http://www.sllodges.co.uk/Gatebeck where you can find much more detailed park information. We stayed for the first time at our holiday lodge this summer and had a fantastic time, the staff were extremely helpful and friendly, as they had been in the past when we were viewing the place. We were lucky and the weather was very nice throughout our stay so could enjoy plenty of nature walks around the area. I believe that Gatebeck only has owned lodges but many of these do seem to be rented out to holiday makers during the summer. There is plenty to do while at Gatebeck including South Lakes Wild Animal Park, The Aquarium of the Lakes, The World of Beatrix Potter, Lakeland Miniature Village, Ruskin Museum, Grizedale Park, Homescales Activity Centre, Lakeside and Haverthwaite Railway, Windermere Lake Cruises, plenty of walks, world-class bird watching, fishing and golf. We plan to go back in April this 2010 and take my two nieces as they will love it.
The perfect country caravan camping retreat.
