Advantages: Fun, plenty to do, great resort.

Disadvantages: It rained :-(

I have stayed over night at Ocean Edge Caravan Park with my brother and his family. When they come north they usually stay in a caravan or holiday lodge or cottage, because now that he has kids there just isn't enough room for them all in our house.

Ocean Edge Leisure Park is a caravan park on the coast of Morecambe Bay in the historical Heysham Village. The park is a short drive from Morecambe which has supermarkets and shops as well as tourist attractions for the family. The holiday park also had many facilities to keep us all occupied including: An arcade which entertained both us and the kids, An indoor soft play area which my two nieces absolutely love and spent most days in there, a swimming pool, A family lounge which was great for early evening, a beer garden which was great for the adults while the kids played in the outdoor adventure play area, internet access which was brilliant for my workaholic brother and a Sauna.

The park is also right next to the sea which was brilliant for sea fishing (I go some weekends as I live reasonably close). Pets are also allowed, so although we only slept over a few nights our dog could come with us.

Morecambe / Heysham is the perfect place for visiting both the Magnificent Lake District or have some fun in Blackpool. There are also beautiful views along Morecambe bay and the walk along the promenade is a lovely one.

THE ACCOMMODATION

My brother and his family stayed in a caravan, which for a caravan was really nice. There was great extras like central heating and double glazing, that made it feel less like a caravan (although as a kid I always loved being in the caravan at night and hearing the wind blow around - it was part of the fun!)

There were 2 twin bedrooms and 1 double, I was stuck in the twin when I stayed, which was only fair I guess, I am a fairly tall person (5'9) and I fit in comfortably, linen and duvets were provided and towels which saved bag space. There was a colour TV, fire (electric), fridge, microwave, toaster, and C.D player.

WHAT IS THERE TO SEE & DO

Lancaster City Museum - Lancaster City Museum is in the former Town Hall. It was built in 1781-83 and opened in 19. The museum has collections which illustrate both the history and archaeology of Lancaster. Very interesting for the grown-ups, not so much for the kids. It is fascinating to learn more about the area.

Lakeland Wildlife Oasis - Lakeland's Wildlife Oasis is a park that houses exotic wildlife combined with 'hands-on' displays. There was a range of talks which we found interesting and the kids enjoyed holding the animals (including Lizards and snakes! - I was no where near them at this time). They also really enjoyed the puzzles around the park and the kids play area in the middle.

Lancaster Castle - Lancaster Castle is owned by Her Majesty the Queen, the 'Duke of Lancaster'. As well as being a tourist attraction the castle is also one of Europe's longest serving prisons, with it still in operation today. Many alleged witches were brought to Lancaster, the most famous being the Pendle Witches, who were tried, convicted and sentenced to death here. I really enjoyed this tour, and the kids did too, although at times the littlest one was a little scared.

Happy Mount Park - Happy Mount Park has activities for all ages including play areas, miniature railway, bowling green, miniature golf, putting green, crazy golf, paddling pool, trampolines, Japanese garden, cafe, and picnic area. Fantastic day out for the kids, all the kids love the splash park, so if you get a warm day get yourself there.

Maritime Museum - Lancaster Maritime museum was opened in 1985. It is in the former Custom House and covers the maritime trade of Lancaster, the history of the port, the Lancaster Canal and the fishing industry of Morecambe Bay. It does this with displays using sound, smells, reconstructions and audiovisuals.

Judges Lodgings Museum - Judges Lodgings is in the centre of Lancaster near Lancaster Castle and Lancaster Priory. It is a Grade I listed building and is Lancaster's oldest town house.

Docker Park Farm - Docker Park Farm is a working farm in Carnforth. It is home to pigs and piglets, lambs, rabbits, horses, ponies, and goats.

Williamson Park - Williamson Park is a beautiful park with magical walks and play areas all with breathtaking views over Lancaster and the Lake District. There is a tropical butterfly house, Mini-beasts amd bird enclosure and small mammal section which my nieces loved. There is also the Ashton Memorial which is a famous Edwardian building on the skyline of Lancaster.

Leighton Moss RSPB Reserve - Leighton Moss is well known for its birds - breeding bitterns, bearded tits, marsh harriers and avocets. There are a umber of trails you can take to see the wildlife, and areas for bird and animal watching.

Carnforth Station - Carnforth Station is famous for being the setting for "Brief Encounter". It is interesting to look around and the tea-rooms serve a nice cup of tea and cake.

We all had a really lovely time at the park and in the area. The staff were friendly and there was plenty for the kids and adults to be kept amused for the entire weeks stay.

Summary: Great Great Great!
