Advantages: Clean site with good facilities
Disadvantages: Pricey off peak, lake may be a problem if you have children
This site is operated by Morris Leisure and affiliated to the Caravan Club. It has been awarded 5 stars by the tourist board and 4 pennants by the AA. The site is set out around a lake and has mature trees as well as bushes and potted plants. We normally ask for a pitch at the back of the site and enjoy the walk past the lake to the facilities block. Needless to say, given the lake, there are ducks and geese around, plus a pair of peacocks.
We have stayed here a number of times when visiting a friend in Wolverhampton, always in low season so I cannot comment on the feel of the site during peak season when it is full. In low season I feel it is a little more expensive than many sites but a bit cheaper than many during peak season. For us, it is worth that little bit more in low season because it is the closest site to our friend that has hardstanding pitches and which is open all year. There is a loyalty scheme, whereby you get a free night once you've stayed so many nights on one of the Morris Leisure sites (sorry can't remember how many nights it is, I know we are well on the way to earning our second free night because we've stayed here quite a bit!)
The site has a mix of grass, hardstanding and super pitches, all with reasonable space between them. Tents, caravans and motorhomes are accepted. One area of the site is designated as adults only. At the opposite end of the site from this is the children's play area. If you are visiting the site with children, be aware that the lake is not fenced off.
There is a shop on site which stocks camping/caravanning supplies and a reasonable basic range of groceries. Staff are friendly and helpful. Other facilities include a spotless, heated toilet/shower block, laundry room and indoor dishwashing/veg preparation area. There are service points around the site providing drinking water, waste water disposal, rubbish disposal and chemical toilet emptying facilities. There is also a motorhome service point. There is a dog walk but not owning a pooch I haven't investigated how good it is.
There is a bus stop within a few minutes walk of the site, with buses to Bridgnorth and Wolverhampton, passing Wightwick Manor (NT) on the way. If I remember correctly the service is something like hourly Mon-Sat (last bus around 6pm) and I think there is a new 2-hourly service on Sundays this year (check I've got this right!)
Summary: Good quality, attractive site with good facilities and pleasant staff
