this carboot is very good when the weather is good, if its been raining it can be dodgy getting out of the field, the boot is in 2 places through out the year, one field they use is on a hill, this is the dodgy one, the other field is on the left just off the main road, this field is a lot better for getting off if its been raining heavy, all in all this boot is very good when the weather is good, not so when it is bad obviously, you also have the extra bonus of brilliant views, amazing walks, and matlock/ matlock bath just down the road, i would give tansley carboot 8.5 out of ten.

I went to this Boot sale today which is supposed to stay open until 4pm.I arrived at 1pm and it was finished.Perhaps they have problems getting enough customers, though that doesn't suprise me as they try to fleece you by charging £1.40 to get in! forget it!

      Won't be going again

We decided to go to this car boot as we'd seen signs everywhere advertising it. It was 15 mile away from us but we decided to go and see what it was like as it said carboot/Market. when we pulled up at about 9am the field was practically empty. There were hardy any sellers or buyers and the market consisted of about 3 stalls. This one was the first one of the season so I was expecting it to be a lot busier. We were there all of 10 minutes if that. Total waste of £1.40 entrance fee. As it had started to rain a lot of people headed for their cars and trying to leave the field suddenly became bedlam. There was no order or staff trying to sort it out, it was just a free for all with the bigger cars I.e 4x4's pushing their way out first with the littler cars all getting stuck in the mud. We also got stuck. Rear wheel drive cars were having a nitemare. Think more organising needs putting in place. The field is on a slope. The entrance should really be at the top with the exit at the bottom making it easier in bad weather. Very very disappointing won't be going back.

I did my first carboot 3 weeks ago at Tansley as i decided to clear my loft out of what i thought was junk and only fit for the local skip it was a beautiful sunny day and was amazed how helpful the staff was i didnt have a clue were to set my table up but was greeted with a very polite young man telling were to go .within minutes of setting my stall up i was selling items very quickly and couldnt get the boxes out of my little trailer fast enough i think the old saying of ones mans junk is another mans treasure is true because i took £140.00 by the end of the day, i am certainly going again as i have discovered a lot more collectable items in my old garden shed .

HiI'm a regular visitor to Tansley Car Boot Fair, and must say my experiences have all been positive. The stallholders are always remarkably friendly, it must be one of the healthiest venues (all that clean fresh air!) and as for the views....!The staff are very supportive (particularly a few years ago when I lost the key to my steering wheel lock, and they tried all the keys on numerous bunches to see if they'd fit. I eventually had to borrow a mobile phone from one of them to call for a taxi to get me home for a spare key!! Not cheap to Derby and back!)Anyway, I just wanted to say 'thank you' for the excellent facility. Long may it continue!!

A great car boot on a sunny day

I do enjoy going to a car boot on a Sunday morning. It is one of those places that you never know what you will find. Tansley is one of my favourites. Tansley car boot is outdoors on a field. A few miles out of Matlock the exact field varies throughout the summer as it moves to about 3 different fields but it is always well sign posted once you arrive in Tansley. It runs on a Sunday from except during winter but also run extra car boots on a bank holiday Monday. To park it costs £1.20 which also includes entrance for driver and all passengers in the car. The field is well laid out. The number of stalls does generally depend upon the weather. As it is on top of a hill on a bad day it can get particularly windy. The number of attractions for children seems to be increasing, there is a huge blow up slide, an enclosed bouncy castle and go karts. Unfortunately my son is too young for them but still wants to go on them. He has happily sat watching them today though while eating a hot dog. There are quite a few vans round the sale selling burgers, hot dogs and hot pork sandwich. A hot dog or burger cost £2.50 or a hot pork sandwich is £3.50. There is also a potato van and today there was a van selling Dunkin doughnuts which I have not noticed before. The stalls are mostly the usual car booters stalls but also a few market stalls which are selling new items. The joy of a car boot is to find a bargain. I mostly buy children's books and toys. As children grow out of their toys so quickly I don't see the point of spending a fortune on them. I can buy good quality toys for my son at a fraction of the price. Today there was quite a lot of baby knitwear and I was able to buy a blanket for my friend who is due to give birth but as her mother is no longer here is missing the home knitted baby ware. There are plenty of stalls selling fruit and vegetable, and a meat wagon selling meat which my neighbour has bought from a few times and highly recommends it. There was also quite a few plant stalls. Tansley market is a great place to go on a sunny day and there is always something there for everyone.

Busy but a sticky start at Tansley Markets new season

Hi Tash im Shaun Hogg the Mangering director and own of the company which runs Tansley Market & Car Boot sale. Ive just been reading your review and im sorry to hear you visit to Tansley Carboot sale and Sunday market wasn't to your satisfaction. I remember this day very clearly (27th Feb) as we all got very wet indeed with all the rain. As it was the first market of the season and the weather forecast wasn't very good so we didn't expect a great turnout but to our surprise it was quite busy there were a total of 54 stands not 3 as you said and the public arriving was very busy until 10am when the heavens decided to open for over an hour we had very heavy rain, which made things a night mare. You were right to say it got very muddy and conditions got very difficult under foot with a little patients though we did manage to get everyone off site. Our staff were doing there utmost best to help everyone who was stuck but some people got impatient which I totally understand. Again i am sorry that you didn't have the greatest of morning with us and hope you will visit us again in the future, the market would normally be situated on our all weather site at this time of the year as it is now and has been for over 20 years , but we was unable to do this on our first market due to unforeseen circumstances . Tansley Market as been operating now for 21 years and is a very busy weekly event with hundreds of sellers and thousands of public visiting each week, this is one of the most beautiful picturesque locations to hold such an event hence the popularity and success of Tansley Sunday market & Carboot sale. Im sure if you were to come and visit us again when the weather is a little better you will be pleasantly surprised how big our market is and what a wonderful location were at in the heart of the peak district. My sincere apologies once again. Shaun Hogg

Somewhere I will not go back to

Tansley Market and Boot Sale First day of our holiday my daughters and me decided to go to the local market and pick up some local produce. We walked down a 60 mph road with no paths to the Market, this was the only way from the Campsite we were staying at, thought it would be nice to get some country air. After a 20mins walk we eventually arrived at the gates where the guy said £3.00 please, £1 per adult, this is the first time I have been charged to get into a local market. I asked what it cost to go in a car and he said it was £1.10. I could understand the charge for the car because you are taking up space to park the car. This does not seem to be a very green view. I thought into today's climates it would be preferable to encourage people to not use their cars, not charge them more for not using their cars.
