The Donkey Sanctuary are a UK based charity which works worldwide to improve conditions for donkeys and mules. Founded by Dr Elisabeth Svendsen MBE, the Donkey Sanctuary was registered as a charity in 1973.
The Donkey Sanctuary has a dedicated team of 45 regional and area welfare officers throughout the UK and Northern Ireland who investigate reports of cruelty to or neglect of donkeys, quickly and efficiently. They also offer free advice to owners, and if you are concerned about the welfare of a donkey anywhere across the UK, you can contact a welfare officer and report the situation.
The Donkey Sanctuary also works throughout the world helping to improve conditions for working donkeys and mules. Remember that in some countries, families rely upon their donkey for transport and often they cannot afford to provide the care that they may need. If their donkey falls ill or is injured, they often cannot affors the treatment, or simply don't know what is required. This makes the work that the Donkey Sanctuary does invaluable. Currently they have projects in the following countries;
Another amazing service that the sanctuary provides is that they also offer riding for disabled children which forms a vital part of their therapy, any of the parents involved in this will tell you how much of an impact this makes on their children's lives. There is little doubt that this is a life changing service that is loved and appreciated by all involved.
Finally, some of the donkeys are now used as PAT (Pets as Therapy) animals, touring round hospitals and care homes and being fussed by patients and inmates. Imagine how much this would brighten your day if you were stuck in hospital!
The Donkey Sanctuary relies on donations and need every penny and more. You can simply donate money, or why not sponsor a donkey? This would also make an excellent gift for a loved one. You can also purchase a range of donkey related gifts which are sure to delight and amuse both children and adults.
I have been a member of the Donkey Sanctuary for around 8 years and cannot rate them highly enough. They do so much good in this country and across the world and desperately need donations to help them to keep doing this fantastic work. Please, please, please consider making a donation, however small, it will be gratefully appreciated.
Why not have a look at their website for more information;
Once again, please do consider making a donation or sponsoring a donkey, this charity do so much good and need your support.
Summary: Please support this charity
