Edale region, England This account is of a member of a DOE expadition which undertook the walk in October 2001. The footpaths for one were much more beaten on the second walk. This was certainly good see as this meant that more people were using them now. The first expedition that I undertook consisted off path after path being ... Read the complete review

Foot and Mouth has gripped the country for many months now but I cannot help thinking that we could all be back to normality if it wasn't for a complete lack of common-sense. I live in the Scottish Borders, an area currently caught in the latest outbreak thanks to an individual from the Hexham farming community being able to walk ... Read the complete review

Foot and Mouth - I'm sick of it. Not because I'm a farmer and it's going to kill my animals, because I'm the poor sod who was to go the MAFF (or should I say DEFRA) website EVERY day to check on the news. And then hear the moans. It's almost as if they complain at me for reporting bad news. But anyway, I shouldn't ... Read the complete review

I live in Cumbria and have seen how foot and mouth has effected our countryside and killed the Farming Industry. There are no cattle or sheep in the fields around here anymore; cattle are still being slaughtered although it is hardly mentioned nowadays. I was driving through a village not far from my town a month ago and had to slow ... Read the complete review

I read that sometime in March that a shipment of farm equipment had ported at Mobile,Alabama. It stated that it was from where they had an outbreak of hoof and mouth. They said, the equipment was supposed to have been disinfected. They also said, if it wasn't they we're sending it back to England. I live in Northern Alabama and ... Read the complete review

Well - I bet it's not a total surprise to find me writing an opinion in this category, is it?. To anyone who doesn't 'know' me, I should explain that although I am not a farmer, I work in dairy farming. Or should that be 'worked', since at this moment, I seriously do not know whether or not I will ever have a job ... Read the complete review

Inspite of what Tony Blair would have us believe, the countryside is not open and ready for business. It may be fully open in parts of the country that are least affected by this disease but most of Cumbria is still closed. You can walk in the Lake District National Park now, we are told, but that's only partially true. Selected ... Read the complete review

I'm sure that you would agree with me that there has been a whole load of rubbish written about the current Foot & Mouth outbreak. First we're told to steer clear of the countryside, and then we're told that the countryside is open for business. Then we're told that they're going to vaccinate, then that they aren't going to ... I can't surely be the only one who is completely bored of hearing the issue of foot and mouth brought up over and over agin. Yes this is a major blow to the rural economy. But lets put it into perspective. Only 2% of the county's livestock have been affected. That hardly constitutes a crisis. Many farmers have suffered a loss of ... Read the complete review

One of the poorest countries in the world has raised fund for Britain coping with the Foot-And-Mouth crisis! African country Mozambique has donated money to people of Yorkshire badly hit by the Foot-And-Mouth outbreak and the recent flooding, according to The Times.
