Advantages: Nice seats, good sound

Disadvantages: The price of tickets and snacks, position of the toilets

It's getting more expensive every year (currently £6.90 a ticket) to go the Vue Cinema in Plymouth, but it has nice seats, big screens and great sound. You can buy tickets yourself at the computerised machines, and there's always Orange Wednesdays 2 for 1 offers for those who have a mobile phone on the Orange network.

What I cannot get my head around is the crazy price of popcorn and drinks. The pik n mix upstairs is even worst! I've grown up in a family where you were just happy to get out of the house, so I'm happy to miss the sweets, but if you're going for a family of 4 with a drink, popcorn, and sweets, don't expect much change from £50.

The computerized machines mean there aren't many staff here anymore, but those there are are mostly students who swagger around unwashed with the distinct look of someone who got hammered last night and just wants to go home. The result is a staff that never smile, and barely grunt at you, which is a shame.

Vue always show the major film releases, but many of the independent films I read about never grace their screens; they're a money making machine at the end of the day, and the smaller independent cinemas have one up on them on their ability to showcase lesser known films.

Main gripe: depending on which screen are in, the toilets can be miles away, which is a real design error when you bear in mind people are nipping for a wee in the middle of a film because of all the overpriced coke they've been drinking.

Summary: Still the best cinema in Plymouth
