Love Dawlish Warren and love Welcome Family Park

We have now stayed at Welcome Holiday Park twice and both times had fantastic holidays. Dawlish Warren is a great location as you can visit so many beautiful places within a thirty minute drive. We had great weather so split our time between driving to other seaside towns and staying in Dawlish Warren to make the most of the great beach. The beach is only a ten minute walk from Welcome and it is more or less flat so not too strenuous. There are plenty of gift shops etc. along the walk to the beach plus a supermarket right opposite the park. There is also a bakery which i found hard to walk past without popping in for a pie or a cake. The holiday park itself is very clean and well maintained. The clubhouse is a good size and provided good entertainment for the kids and adults. There is also a take away within the clubhouse which offers good food at very reasonable prices. The staff were great with the kids and really work hard all through the day. The indoor pool is perfect to pass an hour and is also kept clean and well supervised. There is also a park for smaller children which our little one got plenty of use out of. All in all i cannot fault Welcome but both times we have stayed the weather has been good which always helps! We will certainly be going back again and we already have great memories of family holidays spent there which i guess sums up how highly we rate this place.

Great value holiday in the UK.

Welcome Family Holiday Park is located in Dawlish Warren, South Devon. Dawlish Warren and Dawlish (which is a few minutes drive away) are beautiful places to visit, only a few miles from Torquay on the English Riveria.

I first discovered this holiday park back in 1990, when browsing through the Hoseasons brochure looking for a place to go for a family holiday in Devon, at a reasonable price.
I booked a week here, as I remembered a few years earlier being on the train to Torquay and ,the train line running along the beach at Dawlish Warren and in and out of the cliffs. It looked so scenic and I had never forgotten it. So I booked a week at this park in Dawlish Warren and enjoyed it so much we have returned many times since that first visit and always had a good time.

With many people booking holidays in the UK this year due to the credit crunch and the poor exchange rate for the Euro, I can recommend South Devon for its mild climate and the many places there are to visit.

Dawlish Warren is quite small, and quieter than its neighbour Dawlish, and it has a beautiful sandy beach which has been awarded the blue flag year after year.
I have spent a lot of time on this lovely beach over the years, as we always seem to have been lucky with the weather. This area of the country does have a mild climate, clear waters and palm trees, hence its name 'The English Riviera'.
The beach is backed by sand dunes, leading to a peaceful Nature Reserve with small lakes and pathways. The beach also stretches to the Exe Estuary in one direction and the small town of Dawlish in the other.
It is possible to walk along the beach and sea wall from Dawlish Warren to Dawlish itself, and also as I already mentioned, the train line runs alongside also.

Welcome Family Holiday park is situated behind the beach. The accomodation is mainly caravans, though there are some bungalows too.
The caravans vary in size and price. The smallest have two bedrooms, one double and one twin, with seating area in lounge which can be converted to sleep another 2 people.
The smallest caravans are the ones we have always chosen, and although small, (12ft wide) it was perfectly adequate for our needs and very clean.
All the caravans have TV, microwave, fridge-freezer,cooker, heating and a shower. Electricity is included in the price, and bed linen is provided.
Cots, highchairs, bedguards, pushchairs, garden furniture and even computer games are available to hire from the park.
There are some newer caravans which obviously look better, and some really large ones, but as long as I am staying in clean and comfortable accomodation which suits my needs, then I am happy.
Prices for a week in these caravans start at £105 upwards depending on the time of year.

Check-in has always been quick and problem free. Although it is stated that your accomodation will be available at 4pm, we have always been allocated our caravan earlier than this if it is ready. It is possible when booking to request a specific caravan, so you can stay in the same one each visit if you wish!
I have always found the staff to be very helpful, welcoming and friendly.

The park itself is quite large, clean and spacious with well maintained gardens. An adventure playground, sports ground and mini golf are available for the children. There is also a cafe, takeaway and shop. The fish and chips are lovely!
There are four indoor heated fun pools and a games arcade, as well as a full programme of activities and competitions for all the family, to keep you occupied.

Which brings me to the entertainment. I must admit I do not expect much from holiday parks when it comes to evening entertainment, and have stayed in some places where it has been absolutely terrible!
However, this is not the case here. The same entertainment manager, Mark Price has been at this park for years, and has always worked hard with a talented team to ensure a good programme of entertainment.
Talking to other people staying at the park,I have realised this is one of the reasons why people return here year after year. If you want further evidence of this then look up the park on You Tube, where videos and clips of shows have been uploaded, and read some of the comments left by guests and viewers.
I was particularly impressed by keyboard player/ vocalist Roger Parkes, who has also been here many years, and Mark Price is a good vocalist himself, who has released material, and also does a mean Neil Diamond impression!
One of the team was an illusionist and his act was truly breathtaking. A lot of magic and illusion acts to little to impress me, but after watching his show I was left wondering how did he do that?

Evening entertainment consists of different shows each night in Cruisers club and competitions, such as talent shows etc. Bingo is played early evening before the show begins.
Children are invited to their own Jolly Roger club, to give parents some time to themselves, before being brought back later in the evening.
The children really enjoy this and are entertained with disco's, magic, films and face painting etc.

We have always spent our evenings watching the entertainment here at Welcome Family park, but during the day, if not visiting the beach, there are plenty of places to visit in the area.
If you have a car then the whole of South Devon is on the doorstep, although there are good transport links too.
The nearest place to visit being Dawlish, which can be reached by a few minutes in the car or by bus. We have often walked along the beach and sea wall to Dawlish, it doesn't take long and is great if you fancy a scenic stroll, but do check the tide, or you may get your feet wet if it is high tide!

Dawlish is a pretty town, famous for its black swans which you will find on the brook which runs down the centre of the town to the sea. Beautiful landscaped gardens and pathways adorn either side of the brook, and are illuminated at night with different coloured bulbs.
There are shops, supermarkets and gift shops in Dawlish, and I can highly recommend a visit to Gays Creamery, a family run bakery which sells delicious home made pies, pasties (enormous), cakes and scones, as well as home made ice cream topped with clotted cream! Also available are clotted cream teas, as well as gift sets and fudge to take home.
If you are on a diet then do not visit Gays Creamery as I can guarantee the diet will go out of the window!

Other places worth a visit are Torquay which is only a few miles away, and its historic village of Cockington. Babbacombe Model Village, Kent's Cavern, and adventure parks such as Crealy Country offer a great day out.
If you prefer something quieter then head up to Dartmoor to Becky Falls or Canonteign Falls (England's highest waterfall), they are both beautiful places to visit.

Welcome Family holiday park is a fantastic place for a holiday, and if you visit here you will realise why people return year after year. It is real good value for money, and also an ideal base to explore South Devon.

You can book a holiday here by visiting Hoseasons.co.uk.

We will be going to Welcome later this year!

Every year my family and I take a holiday usually we land up in Devon as there is so much to do. We have stayed at a few holiday parks but the one we have used over and over again is Welcome Holiday Park in Dawlish.

If you are looking for a holiday for the whole family this park is for you!

Welcome have a website http://www.welcomefamily.co.uk/ we usually take a look at the website and then phone to book the holiday. You can also request a brochure and book through the post.
If you phone the holiday park you will find the staff to be very helpful and if you have any special requirements like sometimes we need 2 caravans to be near each other the staff will try and help.

After you have made your booking you will recieve a receipt in the post and if you haven't paid in full it will tell you when you have to pay in full.

        *On arrival*

Once you get to the holiday park you will find a small carpark next to the reception if there is no room there are plenty of other carparks around the park. The first thing you need to do is go to the reception to see if your holiday home is ready. Usually we arrive at 2pm and the caravan is ready even though it says on the booking form it wont be ready till 4pm.
The reception staff are fantastic they will give you a map and tell you how to get to your holiday home. They will also tell you that you need to go to the housekeepers storeroom to pick up your linen.

One of the things I love about Welcome is they give you a real good welcome! When you enter your caravan/chalet the first thing you will see on the table is cups, a teapot, little sachets of cofee, cocoa and tea, biscuits, sugar and milk!
We have been in various caravans over the years ranging from cheap to expensive, no matter what your price range is you will always find your caravan to be very clean and tidy. Yes ok the sofa`s and carpet might look a little tired if you choose the cheapest holiday but it has never spoilt our enjoyment.

I am going to write about the caravan that we stayed in last year

Is a small 2 bedroom caravan which sleeps up to 6 people this is the cheapest caravan that you can hire. Our caravan was near the playground which was perfect for my little boy! The caravan was a bit dated but the furniture and carpets were clean and tidy.
So in the caravan you will find a seating area which I have to say is not as comfortable as a sofa from home. Usually there is a fold out bed somewhere in the living room. You will find a nice dining room table usually round with seating and stools. There is a coffee table, gas fire which we always used first thing in the morning as it was so cold even though it was May! a small tv which I believe was 14inches that is always a bit of a shock for us as we have a 32" flatscreen tv!

In the kitchen you will find a good range of utensils plus all the basics such as plates, bowls and mugs. There was a small fridge which had a tiny freezer compartment, also an electric oven which arggghhh always drives me up the wall as we use gas at home and of course don`t forget the kettle or the kitchen sink!

The bathroom was again dated but very clean, the shower was temperamental and took a while to get used to.

        *Master Bedroom*

You will find a double bed, with over head cupboards and by each side of the bed a little table, a wardrobe, dressing table and stool with mirror.

        *2nd bedroom*

There are 2 very small beds with over head cupboards and a small wardrobe.

        *Facilities in the Park*

There is a fantastic playground for I would say the under 8`s there are a variety of climbing frames, swings and other rides.
You will also find a football pitch, an indoor swimming pool, mini golf,an amusement arcade and a take away.
There is also a laundrette which has coin operated washing machines I believe it costs £3 for 1 load, powder and conditioner are included which is not bad. Dryers, ironing board and iron and plenty of seats if you want to hang around.

Also on site is a very large clubhouse, you will need to pay for a pass which is only a couple of pounds per person, make sure you take your pass with you every evening as there are security staff who ask for the passes. Inside the clubhouse are lots and lots of tables and chairs with a stage and dancefloor. At the back of the clubhouse is the bar and food area, the food on offer is really nice and not too pricey you just put in your order take a number and the staff bring it over to you.
The clubhouse has something on offer for all the family and the entertainment team are very good at their jobs, the little ones can dance and have fun and games and then its time for bingo and cabaret. During the week is fancy dress plus loads of other competitions.
Also there is a photographer and I have to say the photo`s we had taken of my son were brilliant!

There are some shops just outside the park I believe they belong to the park, there is a sweet shop which is full of fudge and loads of varieties of sweets! A Takeaway which has a good menu, their portions of chips are very good and will do 2 people.
If you are looking for a dressing up costume then Giggles Fun shop is for you as the have loads of fancy dress costumes but be warned they are quite expensive!

        *What do I think*

This really is a family oriented park which is why people go back year after year as there is something for everyone. The atmosphere is friendly and relaxed and all the staff at the park are really nice.
The clubhouse can get very very busy especially during school holiday time so it can seem a bit claustrophobic at times. Throughout the park you will find it very clean and tidy that includes the takeaway, playground and even the toilets.
Prices in July for a Moonlight start from £280 at the beginning of the month and £570 for the end of July.

Across the road you will find a supermarket a bit like a Spar shop it is very cheap and well stocked so no need to go miles away to the local Tesco`s.
A short 10 - 15 minute walk from the park you will find a beach with amusements and pub/bars.
The holiday park will make a good base so that you can visit places like Torquay, Paignton, Paignton Zoo, Pennywell Farm, Dawlish, Teignmouth, Exeter the list is endless!
