I go to rural areas quite often and then is when you realise the amount of tools you have around you at home. But also you do not have loads of space in your bag when you travel, so you need to reduce to the minimum the things you think you may need in those situations. I think the best tool you can take with you always is a Swiss knife which includes the most necessary items that you will need in a rural day.
