Matalan Filled Beach Bucket
by sympatic I totally stumbled across this product as Matalan is not a shop I visit very often however stocking up on cheap clothes for a family holiday and priced at an amazingly cheap £3.99 it was an obvious purchase as you get six items in the set and it is ideal for beach, sandpit and paddling pool play. Also at that price if an item is lost or ... left at the beach it is not a disaster as they are easily replaced if needed, we have already lost the nozzle from the watering can which is a shame. As well as the watering can there is a castle shaped bucket, a spade, a rake and two animal shaped moulds, a crocodile and a hedgehog. These latter two items are the most disappointing of the set, they are not very well made in terms of shape but at the price I paid it is hard to complain. Theya re all made of plastic and brightly coloured, they are strong enough for little hands to use but will probably not survive any robust play. My little one loves to use these in her sandpit when the weather permits. The castle shape is pretty good, certainly better than I expected as the turrets are clearly visible and the spade is of a nice size with for little hands. This set is ideal for the under fives in my opinion and my daughter seems to really like playing with the rake to make patters in the sand and to draw circles around the sand animals that she creates. She struggles with the bucket when full and needs help making the sand castles, we have a division of labour system, she adds most of the sand, I flip the bucket and then she does the tapping and we do the lift and reveal together, it is a system that works well and teaches her the importance of playing together and helping each other. Apart from the poor quality of the animla moulds I cannot fault this product given the price. Well worth checking out when planning a holiday to the seaside with little ones or for play in the garden. Read the complete review |

Matalan Filled Beach Bucket
by newby2 ==Matalan Filled Beach Bucket== Me and my mother seem to be in Matalan a fair bit trying to source out the good stuff from the tat and the main reason for this is that it is one of the few places on the Isle of Wight where you can go and park the car in the car park out the front (which always has spaces) and walk right in. ... Everywhere else is either a trek from the car park or, like Marks and Spencer, has a full car park. In the spring when we were in their they had a whole ton of these filled beach buckets which were at a seemingly good price for what you got and mum decided to buy one for Jack to be kept in the boot of her car. Jack has a few buckets at out house but every Thursday mum looks after him while I am at work and when they end up down the beach she never has any of the right equipment. The bucket itself only cost £3 which isn't' too bad considering all the extra items that come inside the bucket. This price is pretty good when you look at a lot of the holiday gift shops that sell this sort of thing in the town and next to the beach which are asking a premium because they are close to the beach and praying on those who forgot to come prepared. The bucket itself is blue with a yellow handle and although not the strongest of buckets can indeed hold the wet sand filled up to the top as it needs to. The design of the bucket is just like a proper castle and the turrets are more pointed than most buckets we have previously owned. The handle is the weakest part of the bucket but like I said it has been able to take the pressure of a full bucket and hasn't broken yet. The castles that are made from the bucket are pretty good and if the right sand is used the castle comes out well and stands solid. The other items that you get inside the bucket include a mini watering can which is again a brightly coloured item and made of a lightweight plastic. This is not that great for the beach as it does tend to get blocked up rather easily but Jack has managed to not get too much sand in it after the first few times of it not working because of sand in the spout. It is nice little addition but perhaps the least used item of the set. There is one little plastic spade included which again isn't the strongest spade we have even owned but Jack doesn't have a problem with using it and the damp sand can be picked up fairly easy with it although the really wet sand does make the spade bend a little and this is not so easy to do. The other spade like item is a small rake that is made of the same plastic and is of the same strength. This is nice and chunky however and does make a good track in the sand and Jack loves playing with this the most as he them pretends to be a car and scoot around the beach following the track he has made. The last two item that you get with the bucket set are little sand moulds and the ones we have are a star fish shaped one and a crocodile one. The buckets that were on offer in Matalan all seemed to be slightly different whether it was the colours of the bucket or the design of these moulds and we thought that these two moulds would be the best for beach play and we were right. They both produce pretty good replicas of the items they are supposed to be and with the right dampness of sand can look really impressive and Jack is quite the master of making them up. All in al I must say that for £3 this bucket is really rather good. You certainly get a lot for your money even though it is not the toughest of sets it is well worth the money paid for it. Because it was such a good price it wouldn't be the end of the world if we were to loose an item from the set, which so often happens when we go down to the beach. I can't really fault the set other than it not being the strongest of buckets you can buy and I think it is only fair to mark it down one star for this aspect but other than that I would highly recommend buying the item and I would think that they will be on offer in the sale if Matalan still have a few kicking around as it is coming up to the end of the summer season for shops. So a 4 out of 5 star rating and a recommendation for this item! I do hope that this has been of some help/interest to you Many thanks for taking the time to read. Read the complete review |

Matalan Filled Beach Bucket
by Flowerpotted I picked this bucket set up the day before we went on our holibobs to Egypt in May this year. I don't make a habit of visiting Matalan as I don't have one locally to me and, well, I don't like it much as a store generally- it's just not my bag! However, I was pottering with my mother in law who was picking up last minute bits before we ... flew to sunnier climes, and I spotted this little play set hanging on the displays that line the airport style queing system before you get to the till. As I was feeling a touch of pre holiday high jinx, I thought, ah what the heck- let's live on the edge and splash out the 3 quid or so on a bucket and spade for beach time revelry. I have got a child by the way...it wasn't for myself... **What's Included?** I'm pretty sure this was £3 or a bit less, which to be honest is why I bought it, as I was going to wait until we arrived in Egypt and get one there. The odd one that I'd seen in other shops had been more than £7 which I thought was a bit of a rip off for a couple bits of plastic (that's also what my husband said when I got a boob job, but that's another story). Included in the set is a blue bucket which takes the shape of a castle (again- some of the others I'd seen were just squared off and wouldn't have made a very exciting shape). Theres a little spade and a fork for digging purposes, a hollow crocodile and dinosaur for making models with the sand, and last but not least, a little watering can. **Did My Son Play With a £3 Toy Every Day for a Week?** Yes. So I'm selling his train set, bike and garage on ebay and we're all off to the pub! Well maybe not- as we don't have a beach in our house to take full advantage of the bucket set. But crikey, what a splendid purchase this was! Every morning, he routinely gathered up his little set of plastic wonders ready for his day by the pool. He mainly played in the pool with his new favourite toys as he doesn't really like the sand too much, but to be honest, although the bucket and all its bits (with the exception of the watering can) are designed for modelling primarily, he had massive amounts of fun digging the water and drowning the dinosaur. Hours passed with him sprinkling water from the can into the bucket, and erm, pouring water from the bucket into the can. Some highlights of playtime included 'watering' Grandad and doing a bit of very sweet sharing of toys with other little children. Then a whole bunch of kids watered Grandad. The one occasion the set was used on the beach- it was most fit for purpose, the spade transferring a little sand at a time accordingly and each moulding toy producing pleasing models. The toys are lovely bright colours and nice and chunky for toddler hands such as my son's. That said- I'm sure a child of any age would appreciate this toy up until the point when they no longer play on the beach, preferring to wear black, eat chips and sulk on holiday. The set is made well enough for the price. It's fairly lightweight, so travelling with it is no major drama and your little one will be able to manage transporting it around as they play. It's not the thickest, most robust plastic in the world- but like I say, it does what it's designed for as long as it's treated properly. I imagine the bucket's handle might snap if it was swung around and stamped on- but provided you don't partake in such a carry on in a moment of holiday madness, I'd think it will last for the duration. **Back Home** We still have the set. It now lives in various boxes in various rooms. I've not seen the watering can for a while but I did step on a crocodile earlier. The holiday magic is over and poor old bucket set has been cast aside for now. However, fear not, as it's waiting in the side lines to get involved in paddling pool fun just as soon as summer arrives... So glad I bought this set. It provides as much bucket and spade set fun as you can possibly have for an absolute snip of a bargain! Bargain bucket! Definitely worth shoving it into the suitcase- you can even stuff socks inbetween the plastic toys to save on space! ;-) Read the complete review |
