Advantages: durable, colourful, price, fun to play with
Disadvantages: the balls don't remain secure
When Springtime arrives, Asda restock quite a large range of toys and equipment designed to be used outdoors. This range includes bouncy castles, pools and small toys for various ages.
*Golf Caddy Set*
This Golf Caddy Set is available in different colours and is suitable for children over the age of 3. It is made from strong plastic and measures approximately 53.5 x 14.5 x 13.5 cm. This golf caddy is aimed at pre-school children and can used indoors and outdoors.
The caddy itself is purposely designed to hold all of the items in the set. It features two plastic wheels and a handle to allow it to be pulled along by your child. There is space for the three balls which are included and also the plastic holes (two of them) with slopped sides. There are three golf clubs included which feature black handles and different coloured and shaped clubs at the end.
This set is currently available instore or from www.direct.asda.com. It is priced at £5.00 and is part of a 2 for £8.00 offer.
*Our Thoughts*
As our sons birthday is mid Spring, he often receives toys he can play with outdoors. We don't have a garden but make full use of his Grans (who lives across the road) garden when the weather is nice. He received this golf caddy set last May for his 3rd birthday and it has been well used over the last year. He received it alongside some skittles and we play with it indoors and outdoors depending on the weather.
The set is well designed and can be stored very easily without taking up too much room - ours is kept in the toy room. The plastic holes sit neatly in the moulded plastic though the balls often fall out which has resulted in two being lost - we only have one left now :( The plastic is quite sturdy including the actual golf clubs. There are a few different coloured sets to choose from including a pink set which will appeal to girls. The set we have is a blue caddy with an orange handle and wheels. The sticks are black with blue and green clubs and red plastic holes. It is colourful and attractive.
There are no sharp edges to this golf caddy set. The clubs and the caddy are completely smooth but it is a little nippy on the skin when you get whacked with one - trust me, I discovered this when Boo had a major tantrum! The caddy is easy for him to pull along ground, grass or laminate flooring and is lightweight but not too lightweight. It does sit upright when every part of the set is in place and keeps everything neat and tidy.
*A Round of Golf Anyone?*
These golf clubs are the perfect height for the average toddler to use up to around age 5. Mummy struggles to play comfortably as the clubs are a little too small for me - life is so unfair isn't it! Anyway, my son prefers to participate in a round or two with his cousin who is 4 in September and they actually manage to play nicely with this set. The different club shapes give a bit of variation but aren't different enough to change the way my son uses each one if that makes sense.
We have taught our son how to putt the lightweight golf ball and he is quite a pro now and doesn't require help. He can comfortably grip the clubs and and swing. A gentle swing is all that is required to send the golf ball scooting across the floor, grass or ground. My son rarely bothers with the plastic holes but when he does choose to use them, I notice he makes more effort to concentrate on his aim rather than simply putting the ball around.
Tee off is very easy with this set. The smooth plastic allows the club to skim grass and hit the golf ball effortlessly. This set is good for improving hand and eye co-ordination too. It is easy to wipe down with a damp cloth should it get a little dirty from outside play. Our set has suffered with minimal scratches to the clubs where my son has been a little too enthusiastic with teeing off but it is in excellent condition otherwise.
*Conclusion*
My son loves his golf set - not as much as his bike or football but it is well used and appreciated. It is an absolute bargain at £5.00 and is fun for a few children to play together. We can highly recommend this set. It is easy to transport should you wish to take it to a relatives home as we often do and it is very durable as my son has tested.
