“ Manufacturer: Born To Play / Type: Skates / Age: 3+ „
These skates say for ages 3+ but on the smallest adjustment they did fit my 2 year old son, and he was actually able to skate with them. Adjusted all the way out they are still to small for my 5 year old so I would recommend these for ages 2-4.
To be honest I did not expect much from these skates. We were buying a pair of proper skates for my older son and of course the younger one wants whatever his brother gets. They were on special at Smyths Toy Store for £7.00 with knee and elbow pads and a drink bottle.
I really did not expect my son to be able to skate at age two, but thought he might be able to hold our hands and be pulled along. So I was very surprised that he took off on these right away. In fact he found it far easier than his brother did.
These skates just have plastic wheels and so will not be able to get any speed, but then you really do not want a very young child to go very fast.
They also will not work as well on a rough surface. We use them on a soft playground surface which is perfect because it is smooth enough to make skating easy and provides some cushion for the inevitable fall.
Obviously these are not going to please an older child who really wants to be able to get any speed, but I think they are perfect for a very young child who wants to skate with an older sibling or just to learn how to skate. My son absolutely loves them, and I do think my reviews are going to be cut short now so I can take him out now that he has seen this. I will mention though that they appear very sturdy and well made, and I expect they will be able to be passed on when outgrown. They are easy to fit and adjust, and I am not able to find any fault with them. They get the full 5 star rating both from myself and from my son. I would not recommend them for a child who can already skate though. Any child used to proper wheels and any speed will find these very dissapointing.
My son had these off Santa a few years ago and they have seen plenty of use!!
They are adjustable in size and go from a size 8 to a 13. They are simple to extend by the bar inside the skate.
They are a soft rubber material and the straps velcro around. They are meant to be worn with the childs shoes still on, so they are nice and chunky to accommodate this.
They are quad style skates with a big rubber stopper at the front. I have found them really durable as they have gone through 2 of my children already!!
I bought them in a toy catalougue for about £15 but that was easily about 3/4 yrs ago. You can find these on ebay for around the £5 mark now, and they come in different characters too.
They helped my kids with their balance and I found them to be pretty stable and the kids have always got around on them with ease.
You have the options to lock the wheels for safety too, although I have never used this feature and just used them as they were.
Overall I would say they are a nice safe way for kids to learn to skate and with the 4 wheels this helps the kids stay upright!!
I have never had any problems with them and they are still working as they should, they do have some minor scuffs but nothing that completely ruins the appearance. They still look colourful and friendly.
