Danty Sand Moulds
Advantages: Make excellent shaped 'sandcastles', durable, easy to store
Disadvantages: None, they're fab!
I bought this set of four Danty sand moulds in Homebase last summer, we were due to go on holiday the following day so they were a last minute purchase after seeing them reduced in price to £2.99. The hand and feet design appealed as the moulds looked a bit quirkier than the usual crabs and shell shapes, Hollie already has a set of specific seaside themed moulds so it was good to find something different.
The moulds are extremely high quality; made from thick plastic which makes them easy for small hands to grip, and deep enough that they create fabulous detailed hand and foot prints. My set doesn't have all four colours pictured above, both feet are red and both hands are yellow - I prefer it like that actually as the OCD in me likes having pairs in identical colours if possible! The moulds are fairly big with the feet measuring around six inches and the hands not being much shorter, they invariably help young children to make perfect shaped 'sandcastles' and add a bit of fun into proceedings when used alongside other moulds and traditional bucket sandcastles.
While we were away we found a spot of beach that was almost empty, it was a lovely place to relax but the best part was that Hollie had a huge stretch of sand to play along. She made rows and rows of footprints using these moulds and eventually used them to play a hard-to-follow role play game which included giants stomping through villages (hence the footprints) and some strange prattle about the hand prints and giant babies. I looked over the footprints and they were all perfect; now, this has got to be credit to the moulds - we live in landlocked Birmingham, my daughter is not an expert sand modeller but using this set of sand moulds has been able to create a Terracotta Army style arrangement of perfect footprints. Quite impressive really!
The moulds wash up really easily, even if they end up being packed away still encrusted with sand or mud they're easy enough to clean in the sink or with the hosepipe. My mum, who bought an identical set, has washed hers in the dishwasher after rinsing the sand away and she tells me they washed up well with no damage to them - can't really see the point of washing the sand off THEN putting in the dishwasher if I'm honest, but far be it for me to fathom the workings of my mums mind!
Storage is even better than you might think as the feet nestle in together as so do the hands, this leaves you with just two items to put away - if you even bother putting them away, Hollie uses hers so regularly that it's not worth me moving them from the sand table really. Over the winter they were left inside the table with the lid on and come spring we just emptied all the sand out for replacement, rinsed the moulds and other toys out and they were ready to go again.
I'm more than happy with this set of sand moulds, Hollie (and David to a point) have played with them so much that they've definitely been worth their purchase price - they also seem very resilient as they've been thrown, trodden on and all sorts yet they still look as good as new with no chipping or colour loss.
Summary: A great set of sand moulds that really ring the changes from the usual seaside-inspired ones
