Advantages: cheap but good quality

Disadvantages: needs snow!

It is always the case that when it snows and you want a sledge everywhere is sold out, but when you buy one in anticipation, it doesn't even snow! We bought this sledge for my niece and we seemed to wait ages until it finally snowed and it wasn't that great of a covering! The sledge will do for next year though so not a big problem. I love sledging, when I was at university my friends and I bought one of those rubbish seat sledges and had fun on those but they do not compare to proper sledges. This one is a really good buy and will last you a long time so I can highly recommend it.

==Price and availability==

The cost of one of these sledges is around £7.99 which is quite reasonable really. They are stocked by supermarkets, garden centres and hardware shops but only during the winter. You can buy it online though at any point during the year. I bought this one from Whitely's garden centre who had quite a few sledges to choose from.

==Description==

There was a red sledge and a blue sledge available to buy in the shop and we chose the red one. It is made from red plastic that is not too thin so it shatters and all the edges are curved with a thicker lip so that it doesn't snap off. The sledge is about a meter long by half a meter wide so it is quite a decent size and able to take me comfortably down a hill. The sledge is toboggan shaped with a pull rope at the front. You can comfortably pull the sledge whilst stood up, although it does get a bit heavy with a small girl sat in it. The rope can then be held as a sort of handle whilst the child is travelling down the hill.

==Our experiences==

We didn't have the best snow when we tried it so we didn't get to see the sledge in all it's glory but we still managed to have some fun and fly down some hills. After a while the hill got a bit muddy that's all as the snow was too light and thin. The sledge did a great job though and flew smoothly over the snow that was there in a practically straight line. The sledge has a reinforced bottom so you do not feel too much of the bumps on your bottom and there is somewhere to put your feet so you can push down to propel yourself down the hill. The only downside to the sledge is that it fills with snow, the front is not high enough so snow seems to gather and drift inside the sledge.

The other good thing is that the sledge is light for a child to pull when coming back up the hill again. The sledge lives at my nieces in the garage and does not take up too much room. As it is plastic, there is not too much to do with it really and I guess if you really wanted to look after it you could wipe it down after use but we just put it away in the garage, standing it up in the corner. The sledge was a bight shiny red when we bought it and it remains in good nick. For the price, I think it is a good investment and should last for quite a few winters.

Summary: fun winter times
