Easy to pop up and fold down tent in Disney Cars design

Having a Cars mad nephew with a penchant for hiding, a Disney Cars tent seemed like the perfect gift. When I was younger I had a Wendy house with a myriad of rods and connectors which took so long to build up so thankfully this tent saved all that bother with its ability to pop up and twist down within seconds.

Although my nephew loves Mater, he still loves Lightning McQueen so I don't think he's been too bothered that none of the other characters feature on the tent. Two of the sides have a very large close up of Lightning with a more faded profile of the car showing some of the sponsor stickers on the side (the Rust-eze logo being on the bonnet). The back of the tent and doors are just plain red with yellow piping and the Race O Rama heading in black at the top.

Made from 100% polyester the tent offers UV protection but I've found if the sun is shining it can get really hot really quickly sitting inside the tent. The same happens indoors if the heating is on although it does say to keep away open flames and heat sources.

It's not a comfortable place to sit. There's only the thin layer of polyester on the base so we always have to fill it with cushions and rugs. Being so light the cushions help weigh it down especially when it's outside - if there is a strong gust of wind flying in through the doors it is likely to take off. At 85x85x96cm if nephew is lying down there's not much space for anyone else but 2 kids can happily sit in there. I'll usually go in it but nephew will kick me out as there's not a lot of space left for him. He's can quite easily stand upright in it too so it's a good height.

Even indoors from the inside of the tent it's easy to see the picture of Lightning on the outside. When the sun is shining it's just as clear as the outside. Nephew loves pointing out Lighting's eyes and the Piston Cup sticker on his side which are really quite detailed. The material is thin but it's still not possible to see people on the other side. Only the impression of a hand or face can be seen when pressing up against it.

There are doors on the front of the tent. They've got Velcro squares to keep them closed at the bottom and in the middle or they can be tied back. The ties are not very long and can quite easily come undone but usually do the job. Even when the doors are closed it's still possible to see inside as they're not quite long enough to meet each edge.

Being young my nephew loves to jump on the tent while it's up which has meant some of the wire has bent out of shape at the bottom. Considering how many times he's done this though it's still done well to hold its shape. If he's in it, there's no chance of it folding up on him as it will only close if one corner is pushed in to the opposite corner so although recommended for children age 3+ he has safely played with it from the age of 2. There's always someone supervising him though.

Popping the tent up is simple as it wants to unfold as soon as soon as it's out the bag. Getting it back in the bag is more of a problem as you need to twist it round and fold it back on itself which you'd think would reshape it. It's not easy and does just take practice but as soon as it's back in the bag it will stay in its circle shape so storing it is incredibly easy. Compared to the tent, the bag isn't as good quality. There are lots of threads hanging from it which usually catch in the zip. Its handy having the carry handles as it means nephew can carry it himself - just have to make sure when the tent is out that the bag doesn't blow away.

This tent is available in red (as we have) and blue with a slightly different design. We paid £9.99 so has definitely been worth the money getting lots of use throughout winter and even more use with the dry warm weather outside. Even after 6 months nephew will still ask to play to play with it and it is quite a unisex product so ideal for female Cars fans too. I wouldn't say there were any problems with it other than it getting quite hot in the sun as that's really the only reason nephew wouldn't want to sit in it.
