ELC Ankle Hopper
Advantages: keeps children amused for hours
Disadvantages: dont trip up!
The ELC ankle hopper is a great toy for playing outdoors. I had one of these a while ago which I used all the time with my cousins. We all wanted a go but could only use it one at a time.
The ankle hopper is made from plastic which is really strong so when it is going around it doesn't get broken. Unfortunately the circle where the ankle goes is not as strong as the rest and when my cousin tripped over the main part it snapped which is why I no longer have it. I have always wanted to get a new one but I never got around to it.
The ankle hopper is a long stick with a hoop on one side and a wheel on the other. The hoop is where the ankle goes and the wheel lights up when the ankle hopper is being moved. The ankle hopper is pink and silver as shown in the picture above but girls or boys could use it.
To use the ankle hopper you put it on one ankle, push it around for a head start and then try to skip over it with the other foot. It takes a little skill as it is quite tricky to start but if you keep going in the end you can continue for ages. It is a lot easier to do this on a hard surface rather than grass because it helps the wheel move with ease.
The toy is recommended for children over three but I don't think many three year olds would be able to use it that well. It does depend on each individual child though.
The ankle hopper can be bought from early learning centre for £3 which is a bargain.
It is a great toy for physical development and coordination and a fantastic alternative for skipping.
