Keep out of the rain with this brolly

As my daughter is getting older she is getting more and more independent. Her pushchair isn't used as much as it used to be so that means no rain cover! Now I don't have to push the buggy all of the time anymore, I've started using my trusty brolly again. My daughter loves imaging what I do, so I bought her this umbrella to be just like me, and to keep her dry.

We spotted this Ben and Holly umbrella in our local Early Learning Centre, it looked like the perfect umbrella for my excited two year old. I swiftly handed over £8.99 and got out of the shop before she spotted anything else to take a fancy to!

The design of the umbrella is what you would expect of a children's character branded one, with half of the umbrella with no design, just pale pink in colour. The other half of the design is where the Ben and Holly's Little Kingdom element comes into play with pictures of characters teamed with pretty flowers and butterflies, these are all jumbled up in their little section but I think that adds to the fun of the umbrella.

The handle of the umbrella is curved like traditional umbrella, this is so handy for us as it can be hung from the pushchair if my daughter gets tired walking. It also means storing it at home is easy also, I just hang it up on our coat hooks out of the way. The handle is white in colour, a nice contrast from the pink and turquoise colour of the head of the umbrella. It is made from quite a robust, chunky plastic so ideal for little children to grab hold of.

The material of the umbrella isn't plastic like most umbrellas for children these days, thankfully! I don't know why but the plastic see through dome shaped umbrellas really grate on me. The material for this one is the fabric kind, it's fabric but at the same time totally waterproof. Being fabric you might think it would be prone to staining, but it's very easy to give it a wipe over with a damp cloth if there are any marks or dirt lurking.

The umbrella is recommended for children over the age of three, I don't see why younger children can't use it. My daughter who had her umbrella shortly after she turned 2 has been able to hold this umbrella fine, it's easy to open and close and she has just recently mastered that too. The umbrella isn't very big so I don't think children over the age of around 5 or 6 would be suitable to use this umbrella without getting wet.

At a penny under £9, the umbrella is expensive. I guess it's the same as everything with a character upon it. My daughter loves being independent and carrying her own umbrella, it's not too big for her even though she is under the age recommendation, it's just the right size. I think this umbrella is perfect for any Ben and Holly's Little Kingdom fans!
