ELC Giant Snakes and Ladders
Advantages: no small parts
Disadvantages: only two counters
Snakes and ladders is a great way to introduce board games to children. It involves no skill but requires luck to be firmly on your side! It is very simple to understand which is a bonus. My niece was bought the snakes and ladders set for her birthday a few years ago as she was showing an interest in board games and this large one is perfect for small children. It can be played inside or outdoors but it is great to play on the grass in the summer so that my sister and I can catch some rays while the children are entertained!
==Price and availability==
The Snakes and Ladders board game is available from the Early Learning Centre and cost £15.00.
The game board comes in nine large foam sections that fit together like a jigsaw and foam the board. They are made from really thick solid foam and the pieces fit together without any cracks showings. The pieces can be assembled and disassembled with ease and then stored away in the box.
The design of the board game is really appealing for children as it is bright and the squares are large. The snakes look fun and friendly with a cheesy grin on their faces. There are 100 squares on the board that are numbered. The aim of the game is to move round the board and the winner is the first to the 100th square. You use a dice to roll your moves. The dice is yellow and is large so it is not a choking hazard, it does not roll as well as small dice but the children do not mind. The board has ladders and snakes dotted around the squares. The rules are that if you land on a snakes head, you have to slide down the board to the square where the tail ends. If you are lucky enough to land on the first step of a ladder, you can climb the ladder to the top step! As you can see, it is all about the roll of the dice and the positions of the players can change quite a lot throughout the game. There are no massive ladders or snakes which is good as my niece is a really sore loser and would be very cross if she was sent back a great amount! The game comes with two counters a blue and a red which are also large and easy to hold. The only gripe I have is, since when did snakes and ladders become a two person game? It is much more fun with more people playing. When I play with my sister and niece, we use a toy as the other counter.
The game is well constructed and perfect for children, the parts fit together and the board is bright colourful and highly appealing. I really enjoyed playing this with my niece. We ended up playing it inside more than anything but we have occasionally played it outside with a picnic blanket. I can definitely recommend it, this game will never go out of fashion.
Summary: a fun safe game
