Advantages: Fun, timeless game
Disadvantages: Only two counters included
Over the last few months, I have really been focusing on working on my daughters number recognition and trying to make the 'learning experience' fun, I have invested in lots of toys and games which incorporate numbers.
I spotted this about a month ago and decided to buy as I though it would be fun - I used to love Snakes and Ladders as a kid.
The Snakes and Ladders board is printed onto 9 foam tiles which measure around 30cm each. You get two little foam counters (one red and one blue) and a medium sized foam dice.
The game has 100 little squares on altogether which I found really useful when teaching Lauren the different numbers, not only does it help with her counting, but when we landed on a square, I used to tell her or get her to guess what the number was.
The numbered squares are coloured ref and green, the snakes and ladders are either blue or yellow and the whole board has a scalloped yellow trim. The foam tiles are about the thickness of the foam floor tiles ELC sell (about 2cm thick) and are easy to fit together, again to help Lauren with her number recognition, I tend to get her to do this part.
Also included are some foam noughts and crosses which you can play of the other side of the foam boards, although we don't tend to play this.
The set currently retails for £15 and available from ELC & Mothercare. ELC products are also available on Amazon at the same price but with free delivery which is ideal if you don't meet the threshold for free delivery.
I would recommend this product, we have had hours of fun playing, the game is really easy for younger children to understand and Laurens number recognition has come on leaps and bounds in just a few weeks.
I like that the product can be dismantled and then put back in the box easily and is quite compact.
The only downside for me is that there are only two counters, we tend to play as a family so end up using s little figurine of animal as another counter.
ELC advise the product not suitable for under 36 months, I can only assume that this is due to the size of the counters and dice, having said that, this is probably about right as I am not sure a younger child would understand the concept.
Overall, I would recommend this product, it is a fun game but also educational too, 5 out of 5 stars from me.
Thanks for reading.
