ELC Grow and Go Trike
Advantages: great price
Disadvantages: better ones available
I had been looking around to get my nephew a bike for his birthday as he was a little young and his Birthday was in January, so I thought I had best wait a few months to wait for the better weather to arrive and then get him one.
The bike that I opted to get him being only one year old had to be multifunctional, I was happy to spend a little more money as long as it lasted him a little more than a few months as he would have outgrown it in no time.
My sister found the one that she wanted from the Early Learning Centre, it was the Grow and Go trike is a 3 in 1 trike that adjusts as your child grows, it was perfect for what we needed so I ordered it online and within a week it arrived.
The trike is bright in colour with blues, yellows, oranges and greens and it has three yellow wheels. It is 57cm in Length 57cm 48cm wide and has a depth of 76cm. It is not recommended to hold weight more than 20kgs.
This trike has 3 stages there is the first stage suitable for children aged 10 to 18 months and this comes with a footrest, a steering handle for the adult to steer with ease, a sunshade to protect your child from the sun, a seat belt, bars surrounding you child so they cannot fall off and it has a pedal lock for extra safety.
Stage two is for children aged 18 months to 3 yrs it has a retractable footrest, the bar surrounds can be removed along with the pedal lock and sunshade. You can take each of these off as your child's confidence grows.
Stage three is for children aged three years and upwards this is where the parent handle can be removed as child becomes independent and can use their bike confidentially unaided.
The trike seat can be adjusted to suit your child's needs and it has a rear storage bucket for toys or essentials, which is great if you are walking to the shop as you can put your purse or shopping items in there so that your hands are free to put and take control of the trike with ease.
This is an ok trike for the price tag that it has of £49.99, putting it together was not as easy as it looked thought as it was quite tricky as it had a lot of components that needed installing at first and these would obviously be taken off over time as your child gets older.
This trike is far easier and more enjoyable for your child to use as you go for a walk to the part or the shops as it keeps them entertained and allows them to see a lot more than the pushchair, whilst you are controlling the trike with the handle at the top. Although if you were out for hours on end then I would recommend that you take the pushchair as I imagine the seat to be quite uncomfortable for long periods of time.
My nephew loves it he has quite long legs so now at 16 months he can reach the pedals and I am sure in no time at all he will be able to use the pedals without much thought or concentration at all. He loves it when we take him for a walk as the handle bars and the side bars give him something to hold which allows him to sit bolt up and be nosey.
There are better trikes on the market that are more robust, but they are more expensive, so it really depends on your budget, I would not want to spend too much more as we have found with a few toys my nephew is scared of them and will not go near them, so I would not like to spend a small fortune unless I knew it would be worth every penny.
Overall a good buy and will prepare my nephew ready for his first bike perfectly in a few years to come.
