      Very helpful

      nice ride on

I purchased this Fisher Price ride on for my son last Christmas in the Tesco toy event for £15. He was slightly too young for it at Christmas as the recommended age is 12 months plus but I was confident that he would soon grow in to it as all children I knew loved a ride-on toy. It is suitable for children between 1 year of age and 3 years.

This is part of the Fisher Price Little People range and is designed to resemble a fire truck. It is made of red plastic and has a blue plastic handlebar which is easy grip so simple for the toddler to hold on and steady themselves with. Around the front of the truck there are stickers which resemble the windows and have pictures of fire fighters on. There is a blue plastic light on the front which flashes when either of the two push buttons on top of the truck are pressed. These buttons also make noises - either sirens or a musical tune. The truck has a black plastic seat for the child to sit on. This can be lifted to reveal a storage area underneath - a great hiding place for toys! The truck is on four black plastic wheels so moves around the floor easily. The siren and light is powered by 3 x AA batteries and these come supplied with the toy.

On inspection, the ride on seems very sturdy and well made and I was confident that my son would be able to play with this safely. It certainly seemed great value for the price paid. I did introduce my son to this at a younger age than the minimum suggested - not to use as a ride on, just to familiarise himself with it. The push buttons and noises were an instant hit with him and he would happily sit by it, pressing the button and dancing to the tune. Whilst this amused him no end, it was a little grating for me as there is only one tune and it would be nice to have a little variation! At this age, he also liked to pull the seat up and down so it did encourage him to explore and develop his motor skills.

As he became old enough for the toy, he took a little more interest in the ride on aspect but I would say that this really took off for him at around 18 months. This coincided with him gaining an increased level of confidence and independence - and he was able to climb on and off the toy at will so I think he felt more at ease on it. The ride-on is a perfect size for him so he can comfortably use his feet to propel himself forward. He obviously feels comfortable on this and the handlebars are easy for him to grip. It is also stable and steady even when he leans on it to pull himself on and off. The wheels are attached firmly and rotate freely so the toy moves smoothly with no resistance.

My son loves this toy and gets a lot of enjoyment from it. It has also encouraged his physical development in a fun way. It is great both indoors and outdoors so is really versatile. I'm sure we'll get a lot of value from this, although I'm not sure it will last him right up to three years of age as it suggests. My son is quite tall for his age and I think he will outgrow it before then. I should imagine he will lose interest in it when other things come a long too e.g. trikes/bikes. So far, it has stood up to all the play well. Even the stickers, that I was dubious about when I purchased it, have remained in place without peeling away. Overall, a nice toy at a good price - recommended.
