Advantages: Fun golf toy with snapping crocdile.
Disadvantages: Not quite as much fun on its own.
Ages 2 -8
Gator golf is just a plastic alligator with a mouth that opens wide to catch the golf ball. The mouth slopes up to the tail which is spring loaded. If you are using a lightweight plastic ball, the mouth will snap shut and the tail will then throw the ball back to you. The toy also comes with two plastic balls and two golf clubs which are surprisingly well made. We have had ours for two years and the clubs and gator are in perfect condition despite quite a bit of use. Unfortunately the golf balls were lost over time to an overgrown garden next door, but any light weight plastic balls, such as can be found in cheap toy sets will work. Proper golf balls, which we basically get a lifetime supply of, do not work as they are to heavy, they will just roll back out of the mouth most times. If they do reach the tail they will just sort of flop out, being to heavy to fly back to the child.
My sons are ages two and five and both boys really love this toy. They will use it some by itself indoors, but if set up in the garden with other golf toys they will play all day. We make a complete golf course from this toy, the golf mole which I reviewed earlier and other toys lying about the house. We use plastic tunnels from a train set, roads from a Happyland set, buckets, small gold holes with flags from cheap sets and anything that comes to hand. With a bit of imagination the children can have hours and hours of fun.
My youngest especially loves this as he loves golf and crocdiles, but both boys get a fair amount of use from it, and much older children will play as well. I do wish they ahd included a couple of other wee bits though to use for crazy golf, maybe a wee spinner for a ball to hit and a tunnel or something. It is fun by itself, but much more fun with more things to hit the ball into or through.
Summary: A fun toy and a great starter for a crazy golf set.
