Advantages: good idea
Disadvantages: doesn't work how we expected, rather boring
Mrs B and I bought this for Little B- nearly 3- for Christmas this year. We had seen the advert for it on the television and every time it came on Little B announced that she liked it. Considering Grandad B loves golf we thought it would make an excellent present for us all to mess around with on Christmas Day.
Bought from Argos in the sale for £12 we thought we had got ourselves a bargain!
What you get is a big orange plastic crocodile which has big boggly eyes and a huge mouth! There is a little section at the back which has a lever in it which is where you have to aim to get the golf ball- via his mouth! The golf clubs that come with this are green and yellow with a ball each to match. The clubs and balls are very very light plastic so easy for young children to hold and carry around. On the side of the stick is a counter which helps you to keep account of scores- this just slides up and down the stick and stays in place which is good.
The aim is to hit the wall through the crocodile's mouth and into the hole at the back of it's throat which then propels the ball out over the top of the crocodile and supposedly towards the child - if your child is standing in front of it anyway! Whilst it does this the mouth snaps shut.
This is a fun concept and when it works it's great and gets a good reaction but I do think it could be improved. I think the aim is that you jump when the ball gets thrown out and the mouth shuts but it doesn't really have quite that effect. I think it would be better if the aim was to get it into the crocodile's mouth whilst it was opening and closing but this isn't how it works as it isn't battery operated the mouth just remains open constantly.
It is a little like playing crazy golf I suppose so is a good way to introduce this idea to a child.
Little B found it fun to play with although she preferred to just keep going round the back of the crocodile and putting the ball directly into the hole to launch it! We ended up just leaving the crocodile and inventing our own game of golf where we would use the sticks and ball and see who could hit it furthest and who could get it to a specific target. This seemed to hold her interest for longer.
When we did actually play with this how you are supposed to, Little B grew bored rather quickly which was a shame as it really did look a lot more fun on the advert and seemed more effective too. I am disappointed with this purchase as is Mrs B as we were expecting more from it. It is a fun idea but it could just have been made to be so much better than it is.
Summary: not great
