WHAT IS IT?
A see saw for in your garden that is made by Hedstrom.
I like the design of this see saw because it does not take up a lot of room in my garden. It is blue and orange with stickers in white that tells you the brand name, there is a sticker on the frame also that gives you safety information for using the see saw. It is made of tubes of metal with plastic seats on each end.
I like the design of the handle because it is at the right angle for children to hold and the position is correct also for safety so they can grip the handle properly and keep themselves stable while they are playing on the see saw.
WHAT I THINK
This see saw was very easy to put together when it was new and my husband and me took less than one hour to do it. The most hard part was getting the bolts in the seats to go all of the way in because they were tight and stiff. It has been very sturdy since it was assembled and I am happy for that because I do not like it when I have to keep checking my Childrens outdoor toys for loose bolts or wearing.
My daughters have a lot of fun on their see saw, they are 7 and 8 years and are well matching in their height and weight so can play nicely together. Sometimes their friends will come to play and then there will be children of all different ages so you have to take care to put children of similar capability together. Sometimes I put my 13 month old daughter onto the seat and hold her while one of my other daughters slowly bounces the see saw up and down.
The movement is very smooth unless one of the children makes it jerk on purpose, I am frightened for their backs when they suddenly take their feet from the floor and fall down sharply but I think this is something all children do. The base is not very big but the see saw is very stable even even my children are being very rough as they play, the ends of the see saw are balanced just right so that when they are using it properly it goes up and down without any sticking and they can use their feet to give themselves a little push back up.
Our see saw has been in the garden for 2 years and it has not been damaged, the blue on the frame has faded a little bit in some places but not very much and that is from the sunny days we've had over the last 2 summers. My husband tried to cover it when we had snow but he didn't do it very good and as soon as the snow started sticking it pulled the cover off, it is lucky that the snow or rain has not made any part of the see saw go rusty and I think that shows that it is a good quality toy.
This see saw is for children from 3 - 10 years but it depends on their weight and size as well as their age. The see saw cost £30 and I think it has been a very good purchase because my children love it and it is good to have traditional toys in the garden.
5 Dooyoo Stars.
This is a great garden toy!
Our children aged 5 and 2 spend ages on this item and to be honest it is probably one of the best things we have bought for the garden.
Not only does it go up and down like most see saws but it also rotates around which is great although you do have to be careful that this is not taken too far by the child as it would be quite easy for them to do it that fast that should a younger lighter child be on the other end they would go flying.
The item is also easily stored as it comes apart. The see saw itself comes out of the base so that the can both be put away - it also makes it easier for moving it around the garden. However both our children have worked this out and we have to be careful as they are always trying to taking it apart and it worries me that one of them are going to get their fingers trapped in it.
Although we have two children obviously this can be as fun for a single child. My youngest still loves to play on it when my eldest is at school. All that we have to do is stand and push the other end down for him to go up - great but can knacker your back!
I would buy this toy a million times over. For the price that it is I think it is a bargain and one of the cheapest and most fun items for the garden. I can see this toy lasting my children for many years to come.
My daughter had been after a see-saw for ages but every one that I came across had to be anchored into the grass in some way, this was no good for us as our garden which the children can play safely in is all patio and gravel. Just before her 7th birthday I found this in my Marshall Ward catalogue and priced at just over £20 I just had to get it.
It arrived in a big cardboard box which was very difficult for me to hide until her birthday but I managed (under my bed). I felt that this was quite heavy too or maybe its that I am weak!
I was meaning to set this up for the morning of her birthday but I completely forgot about it - thats what I get for hiding it so well! When I remembered about it that evening we got it out staright away and tried working out how to put it together. This is actually really straight forward to put together if you follow the instructions which come with it. It took us a lot longer as my husband refused to follow the instructions thinking he could do better himself. In total it should only take about half an hour to do but it did take us over an hour.
This see-saw is very sturdy. It has an orange seat either side to sit on and handles just in front to hold on to. As well as going up and down it has the added feature of being able to rotate which is even more fun for the children.
Both my daughters love this at the ages of 7 and 2 and hopefully it will last for many years yet. It does say that it is for ages 3 years and upwards but my youngest is fine with it although she is closely supervised.
Overall this was a great buy and is highly recommended.
Currently priced at £19.99 on Amazon.
As the warmer weather approached (a few weeks ago!) a friend and a decided to get our boys who are both 2 and a half, a see saw for our garden, as we live next door to each other.
We searched everywhere for a safe sturdy affordable see saw, and finnaly found one in clearance bargains. At £15.99 it was a bargain. It came in a fairly large box, approximately 4-5ft long, but fairly narrow. The box was fairly easy to carry between the two of us.
The seesaw was fairly easy to assemble between both me and my friend and took us approximately 30-45 mins. There were step by step easy read instructions and minimal assembly was required.
Once assembled the seesaw measured (H)60, (L)194cm
The weight restriction is 45kg per child
The seesaw stands at about 1 ft from the ground (when level) and raises to about 2 to 2 and a half when in use.
Te seats are fairly wide on the derriere so the children can sit fairly comfortably. There are also handle bars placed at each end which each child can hold on securely. The pivot is a fairly secure four point base which stops the seesaw from tilting.
As well as going up and down, the seesaw also rotates 360 degrees, much to the amusement of the children.
The seesaw came in navy blue with bright orange seats. It has fairly thick weaterproof paint and has lasted even though it have been out in the rain and has survived some strong winds that did blow fence panels out.
There are only two down sides, the first is that our boys found it difficult to get on when they tried themselves as the seesaw rotates fairly easily, so we need to help them, same when the want to get off. But then again the product is desigend for ages three to ten. The other downside is that due to the shape of the seats after a bit of rain the tend to retain the water which has led to a few wet bottoms.
All in all this was a great product, and a fairly good bargain!!
The Hedstrom See-Saw is designed for children for outdoor play. It is quite simple in design simple being a thick powder-coated steel frame bar with a sturdy stand to stop it tipping over when being used.
It's comes well packaged and is fairly quick to put together taking well under an hour when following the instructions provided. It comes with all the necessary equipment that you require to build it and once built is has two plastic seats at either end and a handle bar for each child to hold on to.
This see-saw is great fun for children of most ages and I have nieces and nephews ranging from 4 months to 13 and with the exception of the baby they all thoroughly enjoy playing on this. It's very simple to use just requiring one child to be sitting on each end and then they use their feet and their body weight to swing each other up and down, it also revolves so there are many hours of fun to be had with children seeing just how fast they can go and how hard they can push down on the see-saw without throwing each other off.
One complaint about this see-saw is that underneath the seats there are spikes and when revolving at a low level it's quite damaging to the garden easily tearing up any grass in it's way and quite often children will play a game which involves stabbing the spike in to the garden on one side and then the child on the other side pressing down on the ground as hard as possible to make the opposite end fly up. This usually induces squeals of delight from both children and one child going pretty high and having to hold on for dear life.
Another gripe with this product is that even though the handle bars are tightened as much as possible they still wobble and feel loose.
This see-saw is currently available for £24.46 on amazon.co.uk with free delivery and I think that this is a fantastic price for a toy which gives many hours of enjoyment all year round.
This products is pretty well made (with the exception of the wobbly handlebars) and is available at a great price. It is easy to put together and although it's been out in the garden all winter in the rain and bad weather it has not shown any signs of wear or rust and I would recommend it. Because it tears up the grass and the handle bars are wobbly I am rating it 4/5. It is a fantastic item for the children and they thoroughly enjoy themselves on it and never tire of spinning around or just using it as a normal see-saw.
