Advantages: Sturdy, hardwearing, daughter loves it
Disadvantages: Building it
The Christmas before last Asda seemed to go a bit mad and put loads of highly priced toys on at £15, this was one of them and my daughter nearly ended up with three as it was such a good deal! Finally sorting it so only one person bought her it we put it away for the warmer months. The car can be bought in a few different designs, I have personally seen a police car, a pink one and the standard red and yellow, they generally cost around £50 each so it really was a bargain at £15.
The car came in a strong white cardboard box that was stapled shut with extra strong staples so there was no way there could be anything missing. The box was actually quite hard for an adult to get into but once we did there were all the pieces for the car and the instructions, the instructions did seem to cause a little confusion and there were a couple of things whilst building it that both myself and my husband struggled with. The car has a red base with a door on one side with a yellow roof and black wheels, there is a fuel cap, steering wheel and a pretend key all making the car a little more realistic. We struggled getting the struts of the roof in the right place to line up with the roof at the same time and this did take two of us and working out which wheel went where was fun!! I really don't think it helped matters that we were building this with a just three year old who was eager to have a go. The car comes with stickers to go on the front for the lights and states the little tikes name on it.
Once built our daughter got into the car but couldn't quite understand that she needed to move the car with her own feet, we started by giving her a little push to encourage her and she loved it, she did finally get the idea although most of our back is grass which is doesn't move very well on. Our daughter gets a little annoyed that there is only one door and always wants to get in the side without the door so we have to keep an eye on her with that as she tries to climb in through the gap between base and roof. She also doesn't like that the pretend key is stuck in although this is obviously a good idea as she would be bound to lose it and she does like that the fuel cap opens so she can pretend she is putting petrol in her car.
The car is very sturdy and was played with every day of last summer and into the beginning of winter before we put it away, she has now got it back out and still enjoys playing with it. There is a small sunken bit on the back where she likes to put her pretend shopping although this is often full of water after rain. Apart form in the really bad weather this car has been left out as it is too much hassle to keep getting it to the back of the shed and it is still in perfect condition even the stickers haven't faded or started to fade.
This toy really was great value and to be honest from the amount she has played with it and the fact I'm sure she is going to play with it all this year too I wouldn't have been disappointed if we had paid full price. I think that this toy is one she will outgrow rather than not want to play with - highly recommended.
Summary: Great toy and even better for the price we got it at
