Advantages: Fun. Low maintenance. Sturdy.
Disadvantages: Not that easy to assemble.
One of my sons best loved toys is his Little Tikes Cosy Coupe which he bombs around the garden in.
Assembling the car isn't the easiest thing to so in the world - although the instructions are fairly easy to follow. Its just that you have to get everything to fit together perfectly, but getting the pieces of plastic in exactly the right position, is difficult to do and virtually impossible to do by yourself. In the end, I put it together with my partner and having two of us doing it actually made it a lot easier. The good thing that that once it was all put together, it was very secure and it has never come unfixed or fell apart! The only negative this about the way its put together is that you can't really dissemble it for storage or for moving it and so you need somewhere big enough to keep it if you don't want it on display in the garden all of the time.
I love the fact that this toy is so low tech and therefore low maintenance that its always ready to go with no need to change batteries or turn it on or anything like that. Using it is as beautifully simple as my son opening the door and clambering in and then using his feet to whizz around the garden. Occasionally he may request being pushed - but this isn't a necessity and so he's able to play independently in it - which gives me some peace!
I find the car is very sturdy and it definitely copes with any assault kids can hurl at it. My son has bashed into things in it, tried to clamber over it, kicked it (as delightful little boys do) - and still its as good as new. It does have a few scratches on it, but these are very superficial and don't impact on the function at all. It is easier to move if its on the flat - and so if you have a patio then its better to use on this surface - but my son does manage to move in on the grass, but its much slower. The whole time we've had it (which is about a year) it has never tipped over and so its perfectly safe.
Because its plastic, its completely wipeable - infact I just tend to give it a quick blast with the hose to clean it down.
Although this is supposedly for anyone aged between 18 months and 5 years, I would have to say that I think most 5 year olds would be too big to comfortably fit inside the car. My son is 3 and he just about fits comfortably and so I don't think it will be much good for him for much longer.
This car cost me £30 from Amazon about a year ago - and its been really good value! Recommended.
Summary: Recommended for 18 months - 3 years.
