This is going to sound a little bit strange to normal people but christmas 2010 my girls main present from santa was this little tikes slide. Why well because they get some much toys and clothes from friends and family, my house is literally packed full if toys everywhere i look more toys it drives me crazy. I often have clear outs and sneak bag full's of toys into the charity shops so last christmas i bought a few toys from the girls christmas list and replaced the bigger toys with the little tikes slide. I knew at the time the slide would not be able to be used until the better weather but as i said i know just how much toys they would receive to keep them entertained.
Another good reason to purchase garden toys in winter is the price. I bought the little tikes slide from an online shop called adventure toys for only £39.99 this is a huge savings because these slides cost around £80.00 full price. The little tikes easy store giant slide can be bought from toys r us and early learning centre.
The little tikes easy store giant slide come in a massive born flattish box with a small picture of the actually slide on the box. On christmas day i left the slide in the box against the wall for the girls too see what santa had bought them. As soon as the girls seen the slide that was it nagged all christmas morning to play on it so my partner sided with the girls and built the slide.
The slide comes with easy read instructions and as simple as it looked on paper to build the slide it really is awkward. Each step of the slide slots on and its a tight fit them the allon key tool has to be used to secure the screws. It took my partner around 40 minutes to build the slide up right in the middle of our living room floor.
The slide is made from hard moulded plastic. The slide has five wide yellow steps on the blue ladder making it very bright and quiet a climb up to the top for little legs. From the top of the ladders to the ground measures 120cm or around 46 inches, this is quiet tall indeed. There is handles at the top for the children to hold on to and balance themselves into the position ready to slide. The main part of the slide is red and has a small border at either side of the slide keeping the child on track of the slide making it harder to fall off the sides on the way down. At the bottom of the side it curves back up slightly around 2 inches this stops my girls falling right off the end when reaching the bottom.
The little tikes easy store giant slide is an upgrade to the tiny toddler little tikes slide we had. This little tikes easy store giant slide is for ages 3 years plus. It did take my girls a little getting used too, Hannah had a few freaky moments where she was slightly off balance and wobbling at the top of the slight however this was short lived and she is super confident now.
A few of my friends children even younger than my own have also tackled and managed the side.
My girls have played on the slide everyday day since christmas even in the wind and rain but enjoying it much more now the sun is shining. Only once have we had an accident due too Jess miss using the slide and walking up it, falling flat onto the slide teeth through the lip hospital job she has learned from this and still enjoys the slide.
The little tikes easy store giant slide does fold flat for easy storage it is not as straight forward, although we re read the instructions we still haven't been able to achieved this part and hope we do as i would like to store the slide flat in the shed this winter to come.
All in i highly rate little tikes for quality as we have had many little tikes toys and seem to be well made and very hard wearing.
Little tikes easy store giant slide is fun for the kids and i'm glad my girls are still enjoying it , also super happy i got it at a bargain price because i'm not sure i would have paid the full price for the slide. £80 is a lot of money to me and id be expecting a full garden package for that price :-)
I will only give the slide 3 stars looses 2 for price , building and still not been able to fold the slide
Recommend for good quality, fun and exercise for children.
We purchased this slide when my eldest daughter was about 4. It was larger than our previous slide, had good reviews and was on offer for half price at the time.
As usual with Little Tikes products it is a really sturdy slide so I felt that my girls would be safe on it. It has chunky steps with grips, nice thick sides to hold on to and comes in bold and bright colours (red and blue) that children seem to love. I never worried that my then 2 year old would fall off it or that it would topple over when several were on at the same time!
This slide has the added benefit of folding up for storage. It is however still quite large when folded so we have never bothered with this - we just put it on the patio over winter and give it a wipe in spring when it comes back on the grass to play with.
My girls love it when we attach it to our TP climbing Frame. It isn't meant for this but is just the right height if you have the TP explorer to put it over the bottom rung so that kids can slide from the climbing frame platform down to the ground.
My only criticism of this slide is that it stops suddenly and quite high off the ground. Until my kids got used to this they would land on their bottoms with a bit of a shock. I also often get electic shocks of the girls when they are on it (not sure why).
My children are now 8 and 5 and still use this slide and will do for a few years yet so it is a good choice for older children too.
I wasn't planning on buying a slide for my daughter for some time, well until the warmer weather came but just before Christmas i saw the Little Tikes Slide on offer for £44.99 i thought i would get it and keep it boxed away until a good time came to play with it. I looked around at other places for this to see prices and it seemed to be selling for around £89.99 so i think i got a really good bargain.
The slide is bright red with yellow steps and a blue frame, instantly appealing primary colours. I found this slide a real nightmare to put together as you have to slot each step in the frame and to get the step with the support in was verging on impossible!! After about half an hour of ranting i managed to get it together and my little girl was dying to have a go. However, she isn't the most confident at climbing and going up high so i was a bit wary when i actually saw how high this slide is (yes i should have looked at the size on the box!!), but she soon got used to it and after a couple of wary attempts at it she became a lot braver and now there's no keeping her off it!
This is a new version of the large slide, and is now the giant slide with an 180cm long chute with high sides and rounded corners, the design includes inbuilt handles for extra safety for the child as they are climbing up the steps and the base is wider than normal to make it more stable. A great point about this slide is that it unlocks and folds up for compact storage which is great if like me you haven't got masses of storage space and don't want to leave it outside during the winter months.
I think this has been a great buy, is brilliant strong quality like most of the little tikes range and will last a long long time! I have seen other slides and some of them seem to have a relatively small slide so the child will grow out of it quite soon, but with this its a good high slide so there's not much danger of your child getting too big for it too soon. The age guide on this is 3 years+ but i think as long as there is adult supervision there's no reason why a younger child can't have a lot of fun with this.
A great buy!
This was a Christmas present for our two little girls. They had played on the smaller version of the slide, but our eldest wanted something with a bit more weeeeee!
Fairly easy to put together, it's great that it folds down for storage if you need to put it away - it can be leaned against the wall in the shed or garage and you'll hardly know it's there. Ours has been kept outside through the winter though, and is showing no signs of wear.
The height is great for our 2.5 year old - it's not too babyish, but not so high that we're worried about her using it unaided. The only thing is it's quite a drop(about 5 inches) to the floor from the bottom of the slide, so she had a bumped bottom when we had it on the patio - not so bad that she didn't get straight back on it though, and now she's expecting it, it's fine.
We originally thought it was really expensive, so got it on 3 for 2 which brought the price down, but for the amount of use they (and their older cousins 4 and 5) have had, I'd happily pay full price.
Another great, well thought out garden toy by Little Tikes!
We purchased this for my daughters 2nd birthday and she still uses it at almost 6!
We purchased it because compared to other slides it seemed to be alot safer and looked as though it may last her for ages, instead of having to buy her a toddler slide and then a larger slide again. This to me justified the price although we did get it when it was on offer.
The steps on this have so many advantages.
They are nice and large so small feet fit on it well. There is also not a large gap between the steps so a child cannot fall between the steps. We found alot of slides had very steep steps which to me felt unsafe for such a small child, this on the other hand incline nicely so the steps are not too steep.
The slide itself has a nice ridge on it so that makes it hard for children to fall of it although not impossible but for us it felt slightly safer.
The only drawback for us is the drop from the bottom of the slide to the floor I feel this could be improved slightly as it is a fair drop for little bottoms.
The fact that this folds up is great although in the Summer we tend to keep it up. But if you have an occasion where the slide is in the way at least you know it is easy to pop somewhere.
Although ours has not done this I have noticed that are friends has. It obviously weathers if left outside and on our friends the steps have cracked from where the plastic has thinned, but as I said ours has not done this and ours is older.
I have three young children and trying to think of things to buy them for birthdays and Christmas can be a bit of a challenge. When Christmas is approaching my Mum likes to buy them something for the garden. This is partly because you can pick up some great bargains once the summer season is over but also because it is something for them to play with outside that I don't have to keep picking up off the carpet!
A couple of years ago my Mum bought the Little Tikes Giant fold away slide. It now has pride of place in our garden and is used on an almost daily basis.
This slide is big not only in height but is also very chunky. The whole thing is made of the colourful plastic that you expect from Little Tikes and is easily put together. My husband and father put the slide together fairly easily on Boxing day and it only took a short amount of time and there didn't seem to be any frayed tempers or swearing so it must have gone well.
There are five nice wide deep steps up to the slide and then the slide is straight. At the bottom of the slide there is a small step which can cause a bit of a bump when your children come off the end of it but mine have soon learnt to put their feet down. Sometimes they do topple forward but they rarely hurt themselves and have never suffered a serious injury.
My children's ages range from 22 months to 5 years and they all love this slide. It is big enough for my daughter who is almost size to slide down but not too big for my youngest. I would say that any child over about a year old could manage this slide once they were able to climb up. I think probably seven is about the oldest I would expect a child to be able to comfortably get up and slide down any older than this and I think they would just be too tall to get any enjoyment from the sliding down part.
We have had our slide about two years and it isn't really showing any signs of wear at all. We don't pack it away in the winter as the children still slide on it. They had great fun in all the snow earlier this year! I have no idea how you fold the slide away but it supposed to be a simply procedure.
My parents paid £49.99 for this slide from Toys R Us but it was on offer because they were having their end of season sale. The slide is still available from Toys R Us for £79.99 but if you wait a couple of months I am sure it will be reduced again. I would defiantly shop around for a bargain because £80 seems like a lot to spend on a slide to me.
I would recommend this slide to anyone with young children as mine have had hours of enjoyment from it and will have continue to enjoy it for many years to come.
