Advantages: Big - sturdy - brightly coloured - hard wearing - lots of fun
Disadvantages: Not sure how you fold it
I have three young children and trying to think of things to buy them for birthdays and Christmas can be a bit of a challenge. When Christmas is approaching my Mum likes to buy them something for the garden. This is partly because you can pick up some great bargains once the summer season is over but also because it is something for them to play with outside that I don't have to keep picking up off the carpet!
A couple of years ago my Mum bought the Little Tikes Giant fold away slide. It now has pride of place in our garden and is used on an almost daily basis.
This slide is big not only in height but is also very chunky. The whole thing is made of the colourful plastic that you expect from Little Tikes and is easily put together. My husband and father put the slide together fairly easily on Boxing day and it only took a short amount of time and there didn't seem to be any frayed tempers or swearing so it must have gone well.
There are five nice wide deep steps up to the slide and then the slide is straight. At the bottom of the slide there is a small step which can cause a bit of a bump when your children come off the end of it but mine have soon learnt to put their feet down. Sometimes they do topple forward but they rarely hurt themselves and have never suffered a serious injury.
My children's ages range from 22 months to 5 years and they all love this slide. It is big enough for my daughter who is almost size to slide down but not too big for my youngest. I would say that any child over about a year old could manage this slide once they were able to climb up. I think probably seven is about the oldest I would expect a child to be able to comfortably get up and slide down any older than this and I think they would just be too tall to get any enjoyment from the sliding down part.
We have had our slide about two years and it isn't really showing any signs of wear at all. We don't pack it away in the winter as the children still slide on it. They had great fun in all the snow earlier this year! I have no idea how you fold the slide away but it supposed to be a simply procedure.
My parents paid £49.99 for this slide from Toys R Us but it was on offer because they were having their end of season sale. The slide is still available from Toys R Us for £79.99 but if you wait a couple of months I am sure it will be reduced again. I would defiantly shop around for a bargain because £80 seems like a lot to spend on a slide to me.
I would recommend this slide to anyone with young children as mine have had hours of enjoyment from it and will have continue to enjoy it for many years to come.
Summary: A great garden toy
