This was a second birthday present for my daughter from her grandfather so I'm not exactly sure what he paid for it but on checking a couple of websites it is priced between £35-45 depending on where you look. In my opinion it should be recommended for her age as a minimum however a younger child could certainly use it but with careful supervision as they could easily fall out of it. The actual recommended age range is 1-3 with a maximum weight of 23kg. I guess it depends on the size of your child and how well developed they are.
The seat is quite deep and there is support for the lower back however the sides are open and while it would take a lot or effort and strength to tip this in a vertical direction either over teh front or back it is easier to fall out of the side however again I have never seen this fall over onto my daughter even though a couple of times she has exited it less than elegantly. However I have to say that she really loves this rocking cow, she ofetn gives it a hug when walking past it and she loves to rock back and forwards under her own steam as she is little miss independent at the moment.
It is an outdoors toy however we also keep in in the conservatory for when the weather is not good enough for outside use, the cow cover is material and is easily removed for when it needs a good wash which is on a regular basis unfortunately as it can get a bit mucky and the white patches that dominate certainly do show the marks. The body of the cow is made from moulded plastic and there are no sharp edges but it is a solid construction and hard wearing to boot.
There is no assembly required however you do have to remove the two handles to get the cover off however that is an easy job and after washing it retains its shape and there is no shrinkage so the cover is easy to get back on.
I love the design of this toy, it has lots of bright colours and the cow has a lovely happy face. My little one loves to rock on it for ages and she also seems to include it in her role playing as if it were a real cow judging by the way she chunts at it and pets it. She has already got a fair bit of use out of this toy and of course she is getting some exercise as well.
I bought the Little Tikes Soft Rocking Cow at my local charity shop for £3 when my son was 2 months old, thinking he would grow into it, and by the time he was 10 months old he would happily sit on it while I rocked him back and forth, now at aged 2, he rocks himself like crazy and still enjoys playing with it.
The rocking cow is 75 L x 41 W x 53 H in size and is currently retailng on Amazon for £41.99. It is made of hard yellow plastic and is covered in a washable material. The body of the cow can be removed to be washed, this is pretty tricky at first as you have to remove the handles, which are very stiff, I found that I needed a hammer and brute force to remove them, but once I had, the body of the cow washed well on a 30C wash and did not shrink, it was much easier to put back together and it is secured by some little oval hooks to prevent it slipping during use.
It is advertised as being suitable for up to 23kg and ages 1-3, though I think by the time my little one is 3 he will have outgrown it, as the seat area is not very big. The rocking cow comes as one piece, although the handle and cow body can be removed, this means that it is quite big and can take up quite a lot of room in the shed.
Overall the toy is great and has given my son hours of fun and enjoyment, I would have happily paid full price, knowing how much he has liked playing with it. The rocking cow has a smooth rocking action and looks great fun. My only concern is that now my son is growing and becoming braver, he must be supervised at all times, as he likes to rock very fast and he has tipped the cow over a few times, mcuh to his surpirse and my total panic!, also if you rock any more than a gentle rock it moves around the floor, and we have tried it on many surfaces, indoor and out. Overall, I would recommend this toy to others, it is sturdy and easy to clean, if I was small enough I would have a go myself.
This soft friendly rocking cow features a wide stable base with smooth rocking action, easy grip handles and a high back seat. Age range: From 1 year.
