A nice little slide for beginners

My daughter received this first slide for Christmas. The slide currently costs 30 pounds from Argos and Tesco and is available in two colours - either green/blue or the one we have, which is purple/pink. The slide is made of chunky plastic. It''s simple to put together - I assumed it would take ages to build (based on the huge box it arrived in - it''s gigantic!) but within minutes it was ready. It measures 120cm x 77cm x 40cm so is just a nice size for the recommended age range given of 18 months, although I can''t see it lasting long term - my daughter is nearly two and is slightly smaller than other children of her age. Although she still uses it a lot, her body length now covers most of the slide part. That said, I don''t feel that she would have been ready for it before 18 months, given the actions it requires (eg climbing two steps). The maximum user weight is 27.2kg. It can be folded for storage which is handy.

The slide is designed for use indoors and outdoors but I wouldn''t advise it for use inside. We built the slide at Christmas to use indoors while it was cold outside but it wasn''t a great idea. We have a large rug in the centre of the room which acted like a good cushion for landing on, but in our living room (which I''d say is about 16ft long) there wasn''t enough space for her to run around from the bottom of the slide and back around to the steps. A more open area is needed, like a garden would offer.

My daughter loves this slide. Fortunately we''ve been able to use it more than I expected due to some good weather and it''s definitely one of her favourites outside. The slide rests on the grass, which isn''t great in one respect as it does move - most worryingly so the odd time she''s climbed up to get to the top. Nothing is provided to fix it down. But it does make it easy to move when we''re mowing the lawn or if we want to move it somewhere with a bit more shade.

The opening at the top isn''t huge and sometimes my daughter struggles to get her legs around to position herself in a seated position. I''d say the opening was around 30cm wide maximum. There are handles at the top that help her though. Although the slide is made of chunky plastic, I''m not happy about her trying to stand up on the top part of the slide as I don''t feel it has a sturdy enough platform. I always make sure that she sits down as for her size, it is high up.

The slide is easy to clean as the plastic is smooth. We''ve had drinks and bird muck on ours and it all comes off easily.

I''d recommend this slide on the whole - four stars it is.

      Very nice slide for toddlers

I bought this from Argos last summer for £34.99, I picked it up the same day I reserved it. It come's flat packed but very quick and easy to put together. It was for my Childs 2nd birthday because it is suitable from 18months plus, it's great fun for outdoors; I find it takes to much room up in my lounge to keep it inside. He found it very easy to climb the stairs and manage to sit down safely by holding onto the small handle bars at the side, which I thought could have been a little bigger, and enjoyed sliding down on his own. Also he enjoys putting his teddies, balls and cars down the slide and really enjoys himself for ages. One issue I find when using, my Childs shoes tend to stick and stop him from sliding properly, so need to wear shoes that won't stick or just socks.

I like how it folds for easy storage, as it will have to go in the garage, otherwise it would blow away in the wind, it weighs 3.7kg very light weight which makes it easy to carry. The size of the slide when unfolded is H77, W120, D39cm. It's made from a hard plastic that seems hard wearing and also comes with 1 year guarantee just in case.

Maximum number of users at one time is 2 children, so you don't need to worry about it toppling over when playing with other children. And maximum user weight is 23kg. It requires adult supervision until your child gets use to it.

I would definitely recommend and well worth the money

      A brilliant first slide

For my daughter's first birthday, along with some smaller toys, we decided to purchase this Little Tikes First Slide for her, as we had, by that stage, already started to take her to the park to play on the swings and slide, and although she wasn't able to go down the slide by herself, she still loved going down with my husband or I. We don't have a huge garden, so we didn't think we would be able to get her a slide of her own, that was until we saw this first slide, which can be used indoor and outdoor, which appealed, and since it was a first slide, we knew it wouldn't take up as much room.

Little Tikes is a respected name, so I wasn't concerned about its durability. Little Tikes claims that this slide is suitable for children from 18 months to 4 years. Firstly, my daughter got this slide at a year, when she was already starting to totter by herself, so with adult supervision, I see no reason why a child under 18months couldn't use this, but I also think that expecting this slide to be suitable up to 4 years old, s probably pushing it a little, and I can imagine my daughter by that stage, would be wanting something a lot more grown up and bigger.

This slide comes in a choice of colours, namely a pink/purple combination and a green/blue combination. Although you would think our automatic choice would be the former of these colour combinations, thinking ahead, if we had another child which was a boy, we didn't think a pink/purple slide would be the best option! So green/blue it was. At the time we purchased, we actually bought this slide in a local toy shop, as it was the same price as amazon around £40 and we thought we would support local business, however I notice on amazon it is priced at just over £35 at present and I have to say I think this is very good value for the quality of the product.

Another big feature of this slide, and it was this feature that encouraged us to purchase, was that it folds up easily and compactly, so you don't have to worry about it taking up unneccessary space in the winter months when not in use. Assembly of this slide seemed to be very easy and my husband was able to do this without too much trouble.

Being a first slide, this has been designed to be stable and the three steps that lead up to the slide are broad and thick to help as a young child learns to climb them. The solid handrail at the top gives a child good secure grip as they position themselves at the top of the slide.

When we got this slide at the end of August for my daughters birthday, unfortunately the weather wasn't terrific at the time, and it meant that we really only had it outside in the garden twice. However, we have used it indoors numerous times since my daughter's birthday. In fact, when I get it out, I can hardly get my daughter away from it and have to wait until she goes to bed to put it away again! When my daughter first got this slide, we had to lift her up and help her slide down, although her all time favourite was to try and climb up the slide. Now, she is 15 months old, she has a good go and climbing the steps herself, although my husband or I are always behind her should she fall back. SHe still can't quite position herself into a sitting position at the top steadily, so we help her with that part, but she loves being able to slide down herself now, and will giggle everytime and never tires of it.

Never have I felt this slide to be unsteady, and it has never marked an inch when my daughter has climbed it or slid down. It is a great height for her and I love that it is the right size to be used indoors as well as outdoors, as you really then get your money's worth, especially with the bad weather that we are so used to getting.

I expect this slide to be used by my daughter for at least another year and a half, and I really think it will stand the test of time. It is a colourful, durable, compact slide that is ideal for a young child.
