I have been after a sand and water table for the past couple of months. I have literally looked at dozens and dozens of different makes and sizes with different functions and features and just not liked any of them. We are on a budget so I really did not wan to spend much, but the cheap sand and water trays were really tiny. I just thought that if that sand part can't fit in in a normal size sand bucket then its not big enough. I also wanted something that would last years and be entertaining enough for both our children to enjoy for a long time.
When I was looking at the cheaper tables I scrolled down the pages on the internet to see what the pricier ones offered. I saw this Little Tikes one initially in Argos and knew it was perfect. It did however have an almost £100 price tag so it was a big no no. So I spent hours searching for it for sale from every place I could find to compare prices. In the end I gave up as the cheapest I could find it was about £80. I had however at somepoint put in in my Amazon basket. The next morning I was online and noticed that my Amazon basket it said an item I had in my basket had decreased, it was the Little Tikes table and it was reduced to £56! Although still more than I had wanted to pay I have many products by this brand and I know they will last, I know they are tough and durable and they will be played with for years. I ordered it there and then.
I got it delivered to my parents house as they are always in to receive parcels, and I was at first slightly concerned as to how I was going to get it home as the box it came in was massive! I am very glad I didn't do a 'click and collect' like I often do for home items at Tesco. In the box you get the sand and water table all in one piece, so they don't clip together - the two trays are already attached. Then there was a few bags of toys, some screws, instructions, an umbrella, 2 lids and 5 plastic legs.
The only installation needed is putting the legs on the table, this sounds easy enough but you get given 9 4 inch screws to screw through a few layers of plastic with no pilot holes drilled for you. So I asked my Husband to put the screws in. Each leg required 2 screws and one screw for the middle leg. After that you have to ties some elastic in the lids which tie the lids on when not in use but also allows them to be completely removed during play.
I have found that 1 10kg bag of sand suffices perfectly for the sand part and there is a handy line on the water section which shows you how high the water should be. It comes with 2 sand toys and 5 water toys. There is a plug in the water table so you can let the water out if needed. It also comes with a branded Little Tikes umbrella which fits through a hole in the centre which is a fantastic idea. This was one thing that made me really want this table when I saw it. The sand table is shaped like a crab and you use the claws to hold the sand toys and the water one is shaped like a fish.
It is a great size, I have a two year who loves it. Our 5 month old will be big enough to use it next summer and I fully expect it to have a play life of around 5 years. Like other Little Tikes toys it is brilliant quality. It feels strong and sturdy and well made. I love this, it looks fun and its a huge bonus having lids for both sides of the table.
Its rrp is around £80-£90 and if I had that money to spend in it then I would have bought it. But to get it for £56 is amazing, its well worth the £80-£90 but its always good to shop around!
When a birthday came up for my two girls (they are both within 2 weeks of each other) and I was asked what they would like I was desperate to tell people anything other than toys! They seem to have had or have every toy under the sun and so I figured some new toys for the garden would go down a treat. Nana bought them this Little Tikes Sand and Sea Table and it has been a hit come run or shine!
The table has two separate play areas. One for water and one for sand. It comes with a parasol (which I was pleasantly surprised about), a water wheel and boats and tools. The thing that I particularly like about the table is that it has lids. We had previously had a water table before which didn't have a lid and if it was left out in the rain or not drained after play it would fill with water and go gloopy and not very nice. I was constantly hosing it down and scrubbing it as it didn't fit in the shed, so I like that this one has a lid. It also has doubled up as a table when they first got it and every waking minute was spent playing with it. At lunchtimes they would ask me to put the lid on and sit and eat their lunch off it so the lids are quite a good feature!
The sand area holds up to 23 kg of sand so it is big enough for a few children to play around it at the same time. The age range is 24 months to 6 years which I would say is probably about right, although supervised I would allow children younger than 2 to play with this and it always seems to go down well with our nephew who is around 15 months old and loves splashes his hands in the water. When younger children play with it we just pop the lid on to the sand tray so they don't splash sand in their eyes and as long as we are sat fairly close I feel comfortable with toddlers playing with the water.
The table is sturdy and made from thick plastic as all the Little Tikes products are. They survive outside and we just remove the fabric parasol when not in use to keep it looking new. The bright colours make it a favourite for young children and you certainly can't miss it in the garden! It is a really good height that young ones can reach it, and when my older daughters plays along with it with her younger sister she sits at a chair and plays. An added bonus is the plug to drain the water, believe it or not, not all water tables come with them and the last one we had had to be tipped on its side to drain the water from it, so this is definitely a bonus.
Children will love playing with this sand and water table and it will give them endless hours of fun. The protection from the parasol will give parents peace of mind as the weather warms up (if!).
Expect to pay around £90 for this Little Tikes product.
After seeing my son's reaction when introduced to a sand and water table at playgroup for the first time, my husband and I decided to buy one for him. However after purchasing a rather basic and low priced one from Argos, we then discovered that my parents had already ordered a much bigger and better one for him. Ours subsequently went back and my son is now the proud owner of the Little Tikes Sand and Sea Table.
The Little Tikes Sand and Sea Table is probably one of the most expensive of its type on the market. It retails at around £100. Amazon currently sell this model for £99.97, as do Tesco. However Littlewoods stock this item at around £80.
This product is also rather large in comparison to others, though that maybe expected in order to reflect its price. My husband and I bought our son a playhouse shortly before the table arrived and had naively hoped that it would fit inside. We later found that it was far too big and with a shed full to the brim it instead needed to be situated permanently in the garden. I would therefore recommend any potential buyer to check for an adequate storage space beforehand.
The Little Tikes Sand and Sea table certainly looks attractive. Its design incorporates a large blue fish which is the water table and an equally large red crab which is the sand table. Situated at the centre is a parasol which gives added assurance that your child or children are kept shaded in the heat. This was an important factor for me and one which makes this particular product stand out above most others. With another baby on the way it was also important that there was adequate space for two or more children to play with it, again the Sand and Sea Table has that advantage.
This product comes complete with a number of toys in the water section and the sand section. There are scoops, a water wheel, boats and various other bits and pieces. Play sand must be purchased separately.
One slight downfall with this product is that the protective lids on the sand and water sections can sometimes blow off in strong winds. This causes rain to leak inside. However I have spoken with other mums who have various other brands of sand and water tables and each has experienced the same problem with rain water seeping in one way or another.
The recommended age for this item is 2 years plus. Though my son has had this for a while now and is 19 months old. Just as with all of his toys, I ensure that he is closely supervised when playing.
This may not be the most sensible purchase when taking into consideration the vast amount of less expensive products on the market. For instance most supermarkets are stocking similar items this summer and all for £20 or less. However it is a choice for the consumer and for those who have a little more money to spend, this product is one which has qualities to reflect its price tag.
Overall I am highly satisfied with this product. It stands out amongst others with its rather endearing design and spacious play areas. Its parasol means that I can be assured that my son is kept in the shade while playing and its attractive design makes it a lovely feature in the garden. This is a fantastic summer garden toy that I would certainly recommend.
This uniquely themed sand&water tableprovides two play areas - for creative sandplay and interactive water play. Comes fullyequipped with a parasol, water wheel, boats, tools and bridge
