Everytime we visited a toy store, my little girl would go straight to the play houses and play tents and she kept asking if we could buy one so I decided to put one on the list of things to buy for Christmas. Looking online I came across a Mickey Mouse tent, and as her favourite programme is Mickey Mouse Clubhouse I thought that was just ideal thing to buy. I remember as a child myself having a little wendy house and holding little tea parties in there, and I loved it and I thought my little girl would too.
The Mickey Mouse play tent comes flat pack in a thick cardboard box, and when it arrived and I saw this for the first time I was dreading opening it as I thought it would take a great deal of building! Opening the box and pulling the tent out, I was both surprised and pleased the the tent literally popped open and was almost ready to play in. The tent comes with plastic rods which are inserted at various points around the tent to make it stand up nice and sturdy. The whole tent is covered with large pictures of the various characters from the Mickey Mouse Clubhouse show and the background shows Mickey Park, again from the show. The top of the tent is black with two large Mickey ears coming out of the side which is a feature that I love! At the front of the tent you will find a door which is simply the same fabric as the rest of the tent but it folds down to enter and exit, and it fastens shut with velcro.
The size of the tent when built is 89cm wide x 70cm deep x 105cm high. When it is up, the tent really does take up quite a lot of space, so it is definately best suited to a large room or even better the garden! Inside the tent it is very spacious, my 21 year old brother decided he wanted to get inside and he is 6ft 5" and there was plenty of room for my daughter even with him in it!!
The tent is made from non woven polyester, and with it being this fabric it means it is quite easy to catch it and pull the fabric - my kitten proved this within a couple of minutes of it being up! It is quite difficult to get hold of one of these tents, I found it to be so when I was trying to buy one, eventually finding one on Ebay. At the time of writing this review, there was one for sale on Amazon for £27.55. When I purchsed the tent, I managed to buy it for just under £20 which isn't really a bad price for a play house. The recommended age for the play tent is age 12 months and above but I see no reason why a younger child couldn't play while supervised.
If you wish to put the tent away for a while, it is so simple to store, you simply pull out the plastic rods and the tent will then fold down ready to be placed back into the box.
I decided to give the tent to my daughter for her birthday rather than Christmas, and I assembled the tent, popped a big bow on the top and placed all her other presents inside the tent for her to find when she opened the door. She was thrilled upon seeing the tent, then even more so seeing presents inside but she just pulled the presents out, grabbed a book and sat reading inside for a while before even thinking about opening any of the other presents!! So far the tent seems to be holding up well to lots of play, and I think the kitten has taken over it more than my daughter has! Obviously we have only had the tent for almost 4 months so I can't comment on the long term durability but as yet it seems pretty perfect!
Thank you for reading my review
