Advantages: Easy to use scooter, young child specific
Disadvantages: Not cheap, cannot fold down
When big brother received a big boy scooter for Xmas our 2yr old daughter wouldnt stop trying to use it. We therefore decided that we would invest in a safe scooter for our ambitious little girls 2nd birthday in Jan. After considerable investigation work we settled on the Micro scooter as it seemed to continually be recommended for stability, safety and ease of use. We purchased ours from Amazon in a lovely pink/red colour (blue also available) for £35.99 but have seen prices up to £45-50 so shop around.
The scooter is made specifically for 3-5 years age group but despite this is very well built and sturdy. The maxiumum recommended use weight is 20kg. The scooter is very easy to put together, coming in just two parts - the neck and handle are pushed into the joint above the wheels - in 2 minutes your scooter is made.
Using the scooter- our 2yr old mastered the scooter within hours and, unlike other toddler scooters, this does not tip over in use due to the 2no wheels located at the front. The base board is centred very low to the ground so, unlike alot of others, there is no chance of trapped toes and just a small step off. This also means that the centre of gravity is very close to the ground making it a far more stable platform than any other system we looked at. Steering is from "leaning" as opposed to pulling the handle bars one way or the other like conventional scooters. This is ingenious as it stops children jack knifing the scooter and prevents them from wobbling the handles to and fro and falling off. A brake is located at the rear of the base board which is operated when they are older by the underside of their foot - like on a Razor scooter. To top it off it is a good looking scooter stong coloured plastics and shiny metal neck shaft to black gripped handles. This scooter cannot be folded down for storage or carrying but is very light and fits in a car with ease.
Lots of other scooters our there on the market, many cheaper than this, but if you want a durable and safe scooter then its worth ditching the Peppa Pig one and going for the micro scooter.
Summary: Superb scooter for age group
