Mookie - Catcherball Game
Advantages: Fun game
Disadvantages: Balls break
The Mookie catcha ball is a classic outdoor game for two players. My family have had this set for years and it has lasted the ten years or so since we first bought it, although I think the Velcro has started to deteriorate now. We have had to replace the ball but cheap tennis balls work just the same. The set now gets played with by my niece when she stays at my mums.

The cost of the set is around £4.00 but It depends where you get it from as if wait to buy it down by the beach you will end up paying over the odds.
The set consists of two catcha mats which are made up of a plastic disc with a layer of coloured Velcro on top. The Velcro and ball are pink and green which is the signature colour for this set. The back of the mats have a piece of material that also has Velco on and fastens around your hand, palm up. You can adjust the size of the fastening to suit the size of your hand. The set comes with a ball, this is quite a cheap ball really and it does not bounce very well but it is extra fluffy so it sticks to the mat well. After a while the ball split but as I said above any furry tennis ball will work just as well. The only thing is that it will be a different colour to the mats.
When we bought the set it came in black net bag, we no longer have this but it is useful having something that keeps the parts altogether.
The concept of the game is similar to throw and catch but instead of catching the ball with your hand, you land the ball on the mat and it sticks. I have never played this game by scoring points but I guess you could play it to win; the person who drops the ball loses a point and so on.
The ball and mats are great fun and it's a lovely game to play on the beach as it does not involve running around too much. The ball makes a lovely sound when the ball lands on the mat and you need to pull it off. I am left handed so I wear the mat on my right hand as I prefer to throw with my left but it does not matter really which one you use. Most of the time the ball will always stick to the mat but there are those occasions when the ball does not land properly and it bounces off. This is quite rare so as long as the ball makes contact with the mat it will stick. Another point around the ball, after a whole it starts to get a bit bald as the fur starts to fall off after being pulled off the Velcro so much. The mats are the main part though and these last for ages. There are similar versions of this game around but the chad valley version is the original one. It is characterised by the pink and green colours.
I can wholly recommend this set; it is fun for children and adults alike.
Summary: A fun active game
