Peppa Pig Trike
Advantages: Helps children build up muscles in their legs, handy for taking your child to the shops, park etc
Disadvantages: Free wheel clutch pops out regulary, self assembly, parent handle useless, as it doesn't help steer
I stopped using a buggy with my daughter when she was 1yr and 2 months, she would walk very well holding my hand when we went to the shops. When she had just turned two I decided I would get her a trike, thinking it would be fun for her to go to the shops on. My daughter is massively into Peppa Pig, as most little girls of her age are, and I set about looking for a Peppa Pig trike that had a parent handle, so I could push her easier when her legs got tired of pedalling. I found this little trike, reasonably priced, and in pink, so I immediately ordered it from amazon.co.uk.
The trike is meant for children aged 2-4 and it is the perfect size for my little one. It comes with a little tray attached to the rear axle, that will hold a dolly, teddy, or a small bag of groceries (yes it is helpful that way). It is quite eye catching to look at, festooned with Peppa Pig decals (you have to stick these on yourself). It comes with a removable parent handle, which just slots in behind the seat and when removed the slot has a plastic cover for safety. The handlebars on the trike can be adjusted 50-53cm, it doesn't give you a lot of room to play with, but it helps a little as your child gets that little bit taller.
==Building the Trike==
I did not expect to have to build this, as it did not say anywhere that it required self assembly, so this annoyed me, I am no professional trike builder, and this is my daughters safety I am dealing with here. Building the trike was relatively straightforward, the instructions were easy enough to follow and I had managed to build it within half an hour.
When I purchased this, I paid £34.99 including delivery from amazon.co.uk, so it's not going to break the bank.
My daughter loves this trike, I have cleared a large space in my living room and she often gets her trike and scooter out and rides about the livingroom on them. As much as my daughter enjoys this toy, I have a couple of negatives, which would put me off recommending this to anyone. The first negative is with the parent handle. When I took my daughter to the shops on her trike the first couple of times, I found that my daughters coordination when it comes to steering was horrendous to say the least, the parent handle just seemed to act as a stick which you push the trike along, I expected it to help with the steering too, but alas no, I spent most of my time leaning over the trike, holding the handlebars to help my daughter steer, this rendered the parent handle pointless. My other gripe with this trike and I don't know if it is a manufacturing fault, is the stopper on the front wheel, that when pulled out stops the child being able to use the pedals, when the parent handle is in use and when pushed in enables the child to use the pedals. This stopper keeps popping out when my child is using the trike on her own, she gets a couple of minutes pedal power before it pops out and she can't pedal anymore, resulting in the cry of "daaaaaaaaadaaaaaaa!" every few minutes. I have to push the stopper back in again, and the same thing happens a couple of minutes later the same thing happens. I know this has nothing to do with me building the trike, as this part came pre-assembled. My third gripe with this toy and it's only minor, is the plastic cover for the handle bar stem nut, it slots into place and you twist it to lock it in, but it doesn't lock in very well at all and feels kind of flimsy. I have since bought my daughter a bike for her Christmas, from Halfords and it came ready assembled and looks and feels sturdy and strong, so I am looking forward to getting rid of this trike when she gets her bike (I can't do it at the moment because she still loves playing with it). Due to my bad experiences with this, I am only going to give it 2 stars out of 5, I have seen other reviews where people have given it a higher rating, so maybe they had a better overall experience than I have and maybe I just have a faulty trike.
Summary: Nice little trike, looks good but has many flaws
