Step 2 Canopy Wagon
Advantages: Sturdy and safe, great quality, looks good, kids love it!
Disadvantages: A bit bulky/awkward, may struggle to get in small car, a bit pricey
Soon after my daughter turned two we had a family holiday abroad and decided not to take the pushchair. On our return home my daughter refused to and stopped using her pushchair, so whenever I wanted to go anywhere without a car, I was left with a slow walking two year old. After weeks of frustration at having to walk everywhere at 1 mile per hour, I had a look on the internet and came across the Step 2 wagon. I thought it looked good and decided to invest in it, hoping that my daughter would love it enough to sit in it. On arrival, my partner had the job of putting it together, which didn't take him long at all, following the clear instructions that came with it. If I can remember right he didn't even need any extra tools, everything was there.
The wagon can sit up to two children comfortably, as there are two seats which face each other (if you only have one child it's even better as you have more room for your shopping). I've had both my 2 and 9 year olds sitting comfortably in it together. There are seatbelts for extra safety, even though the sides of the wagon are very high so kids cannot fall out when seated anyway. The wagon is very stable and it really is impossible to tip over. There is also room for storage under one of the seats and the canopy has two cup holders as well as another small compartment to use for small items.
The wheels move easily, the wagon is easy to pull and I sometimes even prefer to push it (when on flat surfaces because it is impossible to push it off the road onto a pavement which is not suitable for wheelchairs). However, do not expect it to be the same as pushing a stroller, it is a lot bulkier and not as quick to manoeuvre when doing u turns.
The only downside I would say is that the wheels are plastic, therefore quite noisy so you do get noticed when out with it, but then again, you get noticed anyway as people cannot help but be fascinated with it and stop to admire it, commenting "what a good idea". If I take the canopy off and fold the handle under, I can get this in the boot of my car, I have a Volkswagen Passat, if you have a smaller car though you may struggle.
The wagon has now had quite a lot of use and has been stored outside without being covered, but it is still in excellent condition, as sturdy as ever and no rust around the metal parts. Even though the price is quite steep as with most of the Step 2 products, I would still recommend it to anyone as the wagon is of excellent quality, fun for the kids and cool to pull/push around.
Summary: A fun alternative to a stroller
