Tesco Bubble Wand
Disadvantages: bubbles are a bit thin
We bought the Tesco bubble wand as a novelty item for the summer. We thought it would help entertain the children outside while we have a BBQ but instead it ended up being the adults that seemed more entertained by it than the children! Do you need a level of perseverance with the wand as if you are a little bit too rough with it.
==Price and availability==
The bubble wand is cheap and costs around £2.00 from Tesco. It makes a great little gift for this price.
The wand is attached to the lid which unscrews from the tube. It is made from cheap moulded plastic and on the whole has a really cheap feel to it (2 pounds after all!)
You need to wiggle the stick in the tube and then pull it out and gently wave it around so that the wind catches in the liquid and stretches out to form a decent sized colourful bubble. You can also blow through it too but I find it easier to wave it. The children did not grasp it though and as the liquid is quite thin, you need to be quite careful as the bubbles pop really easily. We had more fun playing with it when I was making the bubbles and the children were popping them. When you get the hang of it, you do get some really beautiful bubbles and everyone seems to like to see them. There is something very pretty about bubbles and how they catch the light. After a few times of playing with the wand and the liquid gets used up, the wand started to struggle to get fully coated in the liquid so you end up wasting quite a lot. You can try and tilt the bottle a bit but you could end with it all over your feet! We cheated a little bit and topped the wand up with washing up liquid and water. A good few pumps with the wand in the liquid produced the same effect as the bubble liquid and I am pretty sure it is the same stuff really! Now, we have kept the wand and although it has been redundant over the winter (you can use it inside but the bubbles are just a bit too big for inside really, when they land on things they leave a big sticky wet mark! ) When we have the next family do in the garden we will get the wand out and top it up with more of your home made liquid! Making our own fruity smelling pretty bubbles!
Summary: Fun cheap entertainment
