Advantages: quality, colourful, lasts well, pretty bubbles
Disadvantages: expensive compared to other wands
Last year we bought lots of little tubs of bubble mixture for my sons birthday party. I knew we would be having a few children at our home for my sons 4th birthday last week so opted to purchase a bubble wand. I purchased our wand from Tesco (available in store and from www.tesco.com) where it is priced at just £2.16.
~Bubble Magic~
These bubble wands are colourful and feature a slim, transparent tube with a screw top lid. The lid is conveniently shaped for children to hold and has a long, flexible wand attatched to it. The tube is full of bubble mixture which is clear and has very little smell to it.
Our son absolutely loves bubbles and this bubble wand does offer some impressive bubbles which are much more appealing than those produced by a little bubble tub. I had to show my son and his younger cousin how to hold the wand properly without spilling the mixture but after a few test runs, they were able to use it themselves under supervision.
The wand is simple to dip in and out of the tube and fills up with bubble mixture. This wand can be used in two ways to produce different results. My son prefers to blow the bubbles out from the wand and this produces lots of small to medium sized bubbles. The intended way of using the wand is to wave it from side to side to create lots of big bubbles. My son hasn't quite mastered the wave and simply shook it as he spun around which was quite amusing but did result in the bubble mixture simply dripping everywhere!
On the day of my sons birthday, myself and the older children took it in turns to use the wand which the two youngest children preferred as they were able to jump about and catch any falling bubbles. Gently waving the wand around encourages some fairly large, pretty bubbles which glisten as they float around. I was able to produce some exceptionally large bubbles but these burst quite quickly. Each dip in the bubble mixture was sufficient to create around 10 good sized bubbles.
After dipping the wand in and out of the tube a few times, a layer of thick bubbles formed on top of the liquid bubble mixture. This limited how many times the wand could be used without the mixture having to settle and turn to a watery substance before it could be used properly again. The lid screws on tightly and doesn't leak which is ideal if you want to take this wand out in your handbag for playing with at the park etc.
The bubble mixture was a little sticky if it made contact with skin but didn't cause any irritation.
~Conclusion~
This bubble wand is sturdy and the bubbles are of a good quality. We have used the bubble mixture indoor and outdoor. Using indoor, my furniture didn't become stained or damaged from droplets of bubbles. Outdoors, the bubbles, as you can imagine, float around further and do last well in the air. We all loved playing with these bubbles - so much fun and it is quite energetic to jump around catching them. The mixture lasts really well. We have topped ours up with a little extra water as my nephew spilled some but they still perform well.
I cannot really fault this bubble wand. You can pick up cheaper in stores such as B&M but we are happy with this Tesco Bubble Wand.
