Advantages: Cheap and cheerful, reusable tubs with wands, keeps kids quiet!

Disadvantages: Only 6 in a pack - need to make big groups share!

Recently I was tasked to help out at my 4 year old nieces birthday party, the thought of such an activity provoked fear in me as I do not have kids and generally tend to be allergic to the little blighters but the ones I know best (niece included) are ok in small doses and I felt obliged so I said I would pick up some bits for potential party games.

My local Tesco is one of the HUGE stores with massive homeware and toy sections so I headed straight there and picked up a bunch of stuff including these bubbles. The pack of 6 small bottles was £2 and they were a multitude of bright, neon colours, ideal for enticing small children to play! Each bottle has a plastic lid with a wand attached securely to it, you therefore cannot lose the lid because you will generally have it in your hand attached to the lid - these toy designers really are quite clever huh!?

So, the liquid itself smelt very familiar and took me straight back to my childhood, it is, effectively, watered down washing up liquid - but the bonus here is that once you have the containers with the wands you can simply refill them yourself and never have to buy the bubbles again.

The containers are pretty small, handy for tiny hands to grip and we only had one spilling accident which was quickly rectified with the above mentioned washing up liquid trick to refill the distraught child's tub back up.

The bubbles were pretty good too and I have to admit I did have a go myself for old times sake - it is harder than you might think to blow a bubble the size of your head and requires far more patience than the average 4 year old posesses but it impresses them immensely when you can patiently and gently blow big bubbles and there is something rather satisfying about the feeling when it wobbles off into the air without popping for a while!

I have heard of people putting bubbles on the tables at weddings in recent years and if you were going to do this the Tesco version reviewed here would be a cheap way to buy lots.

Anyway, advice for anyone organising or helping to organise a kids party is to check out the range at Tesco as it is great value for money and contains all the old favourites like this. I bought a number of items for this party which I will be reviewing over the coming weeks and I have to say everything was pretty good quality and great value for money.

Summary: Fab, value old school toys - great for parties.
