Balls are one thing we have quite a few of, they're perfect for in the garden as there's so much you can do with them. When I noticed this Thomas ball in my local Mothercare at around the £3 mark I had to buy it as my son is a huge Thomas The Tank Engine Fan and I knew he would be over the moon with this ball.
The ball is made from a strong rubber what is not hard, if you were to be hit with it, it wouldn't hurt in the slightest which is obviously a good thing when a small child is going to be playing with it. It recommends that this ball is suitable for children aged 3 years plus but my son had it from when he was around 2 and has encountered no problem with it at all. I find that the size of the ball (9 inches) is perfect for my son, it's not too small that he can't play with it effectively but it's not too big that it can't be used. I don't find that the ball is over inflated, it has a bit of give in that it can be picked up without trouble.
What drew me most to the ball is the very busy and bright design. The main image is of Thomas within a white cloud but the rest of the ball is covered in various images of the main characters within the Thomas cartoon.
The ball is very easy to keep clean, after a good 18 months of use and outdoor weather this is still in perfect condition, there has been no fading in the slightest. My son has used this on both grass and concrete and the ball has had no scuffs or scratches which I find exceptional for the price. If it were to become dirty for whatever reason it would be easy enough to clean with a spray with a hose or just a quick rinse under water would remove dirt.
I personally think this is an excellent buy and is perfect for any Thomas loving fan.
~Play time with Thomas and Friends~
At one time almost everything we bought toy wise had Thomas the Tank Engine on it, making me feel like a Thomas the Tank Engine expert in many ways. There are some Thomas products that I feel are over priced and not overly entertaining, though the Thomas and Friends 9'' sized play/ football that I bought quite cheaply wasn't one of them. From the very outset the bright and cheery colours used to make up the product were something that appealed to any and all of the children who played with the ball. The size of the ball being neither too large and bulky nor too small and hard to hold for younger children, made this ball an easy to play with toy that could be used both indoors and outdoors if wanted.
When the ball was new it was fully inflated when bought and had a slightly firm feel to it that gave it a good degree of bounce when in play. The outer surface of the ball had a slightly matt yet also slightly glossy finish to it when this was new (odd but true) which is in keeping with many other similar play balls I have bought in the past. The super new finish did fade over time as the ball got plenty of use being kicked caught and bounced to within an inch of its life on at least 5 days in any given week as it was a favorite go to toy at the time, although the character designs on the ball remained firmly in place.
I didn't ever have to re inflate the ball as it kept its shape quite well even after repeated play and in all the time the ball was in use it stayed filled with enough air so as to give it enough bounce for most of the types of ball games it was used for. I recall that the ball had a firm feel that made it easy to pick up even when used by younger children and when used in a game of catch it didn't have any sharp or raised edges to it that may have made it scratch against a childs hands or face and leave a mark. Of course if you missed a catch when using this ball it could still sting the skin a little if thrown by an older or stronger child, although this is something that can happen with any of the similar character balls you can buy which are made from similar materials.
These simply made play balls provide hours of fun for younger children and the bright colours and designs used on them (which can vary) tend to stay looking good even after hours of play. The cost of the balls can be between and £2.50 to £4 depending on where you buy them, with them being for sale on some well known online sites and also at weekly markets etc. My rating for the product is 4 stars as I feel it is a good choice for summer play time in the garden or on the beach, as well as for taking to the park for a family game of catch or football that all the family can enjoy.
I love this ball it is perfect for fun safe play for all ages (three years and up). This nine inch ball is made of a soft yet strong rubber material. The fact that it is far softer and lighter than a standard child's football makes this a safe alternative for a game of garden soccer. It is heavy enough to travel in the direction the child wants it to go but not heavy enough to shatter a window if it happens to come hurtling towards it.
This ball is very tactile indeed. It feels lovely to hold, it is fully inflated when you buy it but it has some give meaning that I can't stop squeezing it. The next sentence is very strange I know but it has to be said. The smell of this ball is lovely, it reminds me of my childhood it is a clean but strong rubber smell not offensive at all and it fades off eventually as the ball is used in different situations but the initial small is what memories are made of (for me at least).
The design on this ball is of a very busy Thomas the tank engine design and features a large central cloud like white Thomas & Friends print. That aside the rest of the ball is full of fun Thomas images that the little ones will love.
If this ball is used on grass it will get the odd grass stain but they wash off easily. However if this is used on concrete it will scuff very easily dew to its soft material and heavily printed covering. One hit against a pebble dashed wall and the look of the ball is ruined. This is aimed at younger children so it is unlikely to be man handled so it will last the entire summer you can rest assured. In fact our one has lasted many summers as it only gets used in the park so it never cones into contact with hard surfaces. One last thing on a really hot day this ball will become very soft indeed so it is best to always remember to bring it in doors after playing with it as it can become warped if exposed to prolonged periods of direct sunlight plus the print will fade. This is an unfortunate problem with this ball, as of course out doors is where it is going to be used. This isn enough to put me off being this ball again because it has so may things going in it's favour while only one or two agents. Speaking of outdoors, even though this ball is soft it is NOT suitable for indoor play as it will very easily knock figurines and the like off shelves (I speak from experience).
Another thing I have noticed is that some kids will out and out refuse to play with this ball as it is too young for them but for they age group it is aimed at they seem to love this ball.
This is an affordable, cute as can be, light ball. It is perfect for the little ones over the bright summer months. It costs only £2.80 in Mothercare at the moment and I think it is a great buy for any child but most of all for a Thomas fan.
The perfect Thomas the Tank engine ball to play with in the park, garden or even on the beach.Design may vary. Age range: From 3 years.
