Tobar Catch Ball Set

Advantages: fun for children and adults

Disadvantages: ball can be tricky to remove, sometimes velcro comes off

When planning a trip to the beach last year with some friends I thought I would think ahead and purchase something that the children could play whilst at the beach whilst us grown ups lay on the sand soaking up the sun! The item that I purchased was the tobar catch ball set and it cost me around five pounds for the set.

The tobar catch ball set is basically a set which can allow those with poor coordination the opportunity to try and join it at a catch game which makes it ideal for children. In the set you get two catch pads and a catch ball.

The catch pads are basically a circular piece of plastic which is covered with Velcro covering the front of it, half of the Velcro is pink and half of it is green. The catch pads have a strap on the back which you attach to the hand you are going to use to catch the ball with leaving your other hand free to throw the ball. What is good about these sets is that the straps are adjustable so they will fit both children's and adult's hands as we all know once we see the children playing with something fun we all end up wanting to have a go too just to prove who is the champion of the grown ups! Also within the set you get a pink and green tennis ball which is a bit fluffy in a way. It is designed to stick to the neon Velcro catch pads.

Basically the idea of the game is to throw the ball to one another whilst catching it with the catch pad. The theory is that it will be easier to catch the ball for those without a fully developed coordination as they can just throw their hand in the direction of the ball and it will stick to the pad. My son and his friend enjoyed playing this game together at the beach and it was something that they could do quite independently. An issue that they did have was that the ball was pretty hard to remove from the Velcro each time and sometimes we would have to go and help them take it off as they didn't always have the strength to remove it!

As adults you can obviously make this game a bit harder by perhaps standing at quite a distance from each other to throw the ball and I have even seen people playing with these sets in the water so they are quite flexible in terms of use really.

We used this set quite a few times before the Velcro began to come loose from the catch pads. Now of course I would say this is likely to happen eventually considering how difficult it can be to remove the ball from the pad each time! To fix this problem I simply stuck the Velcro back down with some superglue and it was good to go again for a while.

I think that these sets are a great buy really, especially for young children. They are easily carried in a beach bag or even just a normal bag should you want to take them to the park on a sunny day. My son and I have even played this game just in the back yard on a nice day so it makes a nice outdoor toy in my opinion. You can purchase it from amazon for £4.19 with £1.19 shipping so it isn't a bad price really. I know you can buy imitation versions of these sets in some supermarkets and things but in my experience they just don't last the same.

Thank you for reading my review!

Summary: A good game for beach/park days
