Tobar Catch Ball Set
Advantages: great set which stands the test of time
==Tobar Catch Ball Set==
The Tobar Catch Ball Set is one of those items that we have had kicking around since I was young and Mum managed to keep it up until now so that we can use it with Jack and he is really enjoying playing with it, much like I did.
This set is really old now but you can still pick up the set from a ton of different places both on the high street and online. I think we probably purchased it from Woolworth's when that was still in business as we tended to get most of our play items from here when I was younger.
The set is usually priced now at around the £6 price range which is a really good price for a great item such as this. What you get when you buy this ball set is basically a tennis ball type ball and two hand catchers which are round plastic discs. The ball catchers have Velcro straps on the back of the board so that you can fix it to your hand and there are adjustable so that you can get it nice and tight and it then won't be able to slip off.
The front of the hand catchers is also covered with one type of the Velcro material and this is hard to the touch and made up of two section of colours meeting in the middle. My colour is pink and green which I think is the standard although I have seen them in other colours.
The ball is also a mix of pink and purple in colour and is covered in a fluffier type of material which allows it to stick to the hand pads. The set we have still has the original ball which surprises me as we have had it so long but this is obviously a good thing because I don't think a normal tennis ball would be suitable due to the fact that this Tobar ball is a little softer to feel and also the material is a lot fluffier and a tennis ball surely wouldn't stick to it.
The set has an age range of those aged 5 and over but even though Jack is only just four he doesn't have really much trouble with using it. The only downside would be his smaller hands which don't give the hand catcher much support when the ball lands on it but apart from that he seems much better at playing this than he would be at playing regular catch with the ball on its own.
The ball doesn't always stick to the hand catchers although because my ball is a little worn due to its age it probably sticks better now than it even used to. Of course the ability of the ball to stick to the catchers also depends on a lot of other aspects such as the distance each player is standing from each other and the speed at which the ball is thrown and with me playing with Jack I still tend to throw it rather more carefully than I would when I am playing with Himself and Jack and I have more success in making the ball stick to the catcher.
The other thing that annoys me about this set is the aspect that the hand catcher seems to get everything and anything stuck to it and things like hair and grass seem to get embedded right the way into the hard prickly Velcro and it is not the easiest stuff to get out which makes the catchers look a little tatty.
The playability of the set is really high but it is only a a game that it is suitable from outdoor use because of the space needed and the hardness of the ball. It is however really great fun and Jack finds it hilarious when the balls sticks to the catcher and he has to peel it off to throw it. It is not only getting him out of the house and into the fresh air but it is also improving his dexterity and ability to throw and catch a ball.
I have to say that I cant' really fault this product. It can be found for a good price for the set you get and it is clearly an item made to a high standard which allows it to last as long as it has and still be just as much fun as when it was brand new. It has got to be a top scoring product and is well deserving of a top 5 out of 5 star rating.
I do hope that this has been of some help/interest to you
Many thanks for taking the time to read.
Summary: A great game for outdoors
