TP Boat Sandpit
Disadvantages: price and doesnt come with a lid.
When my youngest son was about 18 months old I decided to invest in a sandpit. I wanted something that would be big enough for several children to play in and also something strong enough to withstand rough play! Whilst shopping in John Lewis I found just what I was looking for; a boat shaped sand pit made by T.P. As I already had a T.P climbing frame I knew it was likely to be of good quality.
The sand pit is in the shape of a blue boat and is made of injection moulded ultraviolet stabilised plastic. This means that the plastic wont crack in sunlight. It has two moulded seats at the back to enable children to sit comfortably whilst playing. The sandpit doesn't come with a lid although this can be purchased separately for £24.95.The lid fits securely over the base of the sandpit and has grooves designed to be used as canals and roadways.
This is quite a large sandpit measuring 120 cm in length ,100 cm in width and is 20 cm high. It can either be used as a sandpit or a paddling pool. We have always used it as a sandpit as we had a separate paddling pool. My son spent many happy hours playing in this sandpit and enjoyed the fact he could actually sit inside on a seat with a friend.
My son is now 10 and the sandpit sits on our patio as a reminder of when he was little. It is still in really good condition and the plastic shows no signs of cracks and nether has the colour faded. I have several friend with young children are so keep the sandpit full of clean sand so they can enjoy playing in it.
I think you really do need a lid on a sandpit especially if you live near cats!I think the lid is very expensive and whilst the design idea is good in reality my son rarely used the lid to play with his cars or boats. He far preferred to play with them in the sand. The grooves in the lid collect water and grime and I would have preferred a smooth less expensive lid!
I really cant remember how much I paid for this sandpit but see it is on sale in John Lewis for £27.95. Although this is more than other plastic models it really has withstood the test of time and provided many hours of fun for numerous children.
