Advantages: Hours of imaginative role play fun, very good quality.
Last year I was lucky enough to win a Pirate Galleon from work, it was a slight second in the fact that it didn't have the flag however, apart from that, it was in perfect condition.
TP are a long standing company which were originally established in 1959 and were one of the first companies to make Hula Hoops, they then went on to manufacture products made from plastic-sleeved steel tubing hence the name Tube Plastics which the TP stands for. The eventually started branching out making fibreglass slides, swings trampolines and became the brand which is known now.
TP are well known throughout the outdoor toy industry and some of the its biggest customers are John Lewis, ELC and Toys R Us.
Earlier this year it was purchased by Mookie toys.
Upon getting it home, my partner set about building it (I leave that sort of thing to him as I struggle assembling basic things!) He has said that it was fairly easy to assemble although due to the size of it, it did take him a good couple hours (it came in 6 large boxes and was mainly flat packed).
I did assist by holding certain pieces in place so I would recommend having someone to help you when building.
All the screws and fixings were included but we did need to use a range or screwdrivers and spanners to assemble (luckily, he had all these)
*Price & availability:*
The RRP is around £650, it is available online at several different places like John Lewis, TTS, ELC and also TP themselves. Prices do vary by up to £30 each way so it is worth shopping around first. Due to the size of the item, I have never seen it in the shops so normally delivery only.
This is a piece if play equipment which comes in the shape of boat, to access you climb the plank which measure around 100cm and has 5 'rungs' on it. Its is not too high so I wasn't worried about Lauren falling off.
Once inside, the boat itself has no base, to one side there is the captains cabin which has two little red windows to each side and a hole which looks into the boat covered by a black cloth with a skull and cross bones on.
Above the captains cabin there is a little seating area which is accessed by a ladder inside the boat. This does have a rail around to ensure children cannot easily fall off. (I would recommend putting the galleon on grass as it would not be impossible for a child to fall off).
To the other side of the boat there is the steering wheel, and two black windows. This is also where the mast and flags are situated.
You will need quite a large flat surface for this item, once fully assembled, it measures 300cm x 115cm and then you will need to add around another 100cm on for the gang plank.
When fully assembled, the screws are slightly sunken in so as not to leave any sharp bits sticking out.
It is recommended for 3 to 8 years.
It is made in the UK from FSC-certified Scandinavian pine.
The wood is guaranteed for 5 years against wood rot and the product comes with a 1 year manufacturer guarantee.
TP do sell spare parts to if anything does break outside of the guarantee period, you may be able to purchase replacements.
This was assembled while Lauren was at my mum and dads and she had no idea she had it, as soon as she came home she was really excited when she saw it. Although she didn't really know about pirates, it was a great play area for her and because of the size, I can play on it with her too.
Lauren absolutely loves this, more so this year as she has started watching Jake & The Netherland Pirates do she loves to put her pirates hat on and pretend to be Captain Hook.
I have noticed this year, it has really started to progress Laurens imaginative play, when we have friends round, there seems to be no end to what they pretend to be doing. The galleon has been a shop, a boat, a house, a bus - the list is endless.
This has won loads of awards over the years and I can see why.
The product feels and looks very expensive and is very well made. When assembled it is really sturdy.
This is the main thing Lauren likes to play with in the garden, (except her trampoline) however when she is on the trampoline, she does like to sit her dolls on the top platform so they can watch her.
This has been left out in our garden for around a year now and despite the bad weather we have had, it sill looks like new (I do bring the cloth items in at night as they tie on and off really easily).
If I hadn't had won this, I don't think I would buy this it but that is purely due to the price however if money was no object, I would definitely recommend and it is well worth its money.
I would give the product 5 out of 5 stars if it was a little cheaper but because of this, I would only give 4 stars.
